5.0 out of 5 stars Collision of Fear and Faith
I bought the cd after seeing Michael Olson performance of "OUR FIRST LOVE" at a Michael W. Smith concert. WOW, that song makes you reflect on God in such a way, it touches your heart!!! That song stays with you because it brings you to the point where you remember that God is always first in your life and you remember when you turned everything over to God. I am...

I wasn't supper impressed with Michael Olson's debut, but I saw signs of promise. So I decided to give him another chance with this CD. Unfortunately, there really hasn't been any change between the two discs. There are still signs of promise here, but it's mostly middle of the road pop.

I find that hard to say because I do enjoy several of the songs on this...

That song stays with you because it brings you to the point where you remember that God is always first in your life and you remember when you turned everything over to God. I am totally impressed with the passion Michael Olson has displayed for God in his songs. I enjoyed this cd greatly and would encourage anyone who wants to hear a fresh new sound and devotion to God to purchase this cd. It is worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful charming CD, June 19, 2007
This review is from: Where Fear & Faith Collide (Audio CD)
This is exactly the reason why I love Christian music. The songs have their own unique tempo, their passionate roots, their trustworthy message. The music, all the instruments, work together splendidly to bring about an album of praise and love to God, to Christ. Something that you can feel with each song you listen to. The album starts off with the radio played "On the Third Day." This is a song that is not only enjoyable to listen to just for the instruments, but the message hits home and helps to invigorate you. Another song that I can't help but listen to again and again is "Unchanged." Again, this song does a great job to produce a worshiping passion in your heart and soul and mind. I highly suggest that, if you want to hear great Christian music, you pick this album up and keep it playing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, January 2, 2008
This review is from: Where Fear & Faith Collide (Audio CD)
I have to agree with Mark a little. I am conflicted. Michael shows real promise. Some of the songs I loved the first time I listened to them (like 'On The Third Day' and 'God Is With Us'. Others took listening to a dozen times but then I liked them a lot. But many of the songs didn't do anything for me at all. I think the album is worth buying just for the few really good songs it does have. But I wish it had more of them.

I think of Michael Olsen as a mix between Chris Tomlin and Matthew West. He can write some very nice upbeat stuff like Matthew west. But most of the music on this album is more mellow like Chris Tomlin.

I wasn't supper impressed with Michael Olson's debut, but I saw signs of promise. So I decided to give him another chance with this CD. Unfortunately, there really hasn't been any change between the two discs. There are still signs of promise here, but it's mostly middle of the road pop.

I find that hard to say because I do enjoy several of the songs on this disc. The first radio single "On the Third Day" is fun song about rebirth, specifically the rebirth we are promised because of Christ's resurrection. "If You Can Stop the World" equally catches my ear with a slightly new take on the idea that we can't stop God from loving us. "Fear and Faith" is a great song about taking those steps of faith despite our fears.

However, the majority of the disc is rather bland. The songs just seem to all blend together with very little to distinguish one from the next. And most of the lyrics seem to be retreads of themes that have been sung about countless times before. Even worse, I really don't find any of the songs that memorable. After having had the disc for several months now, I can't remember what any of the songs sound like without putting the disc in again.

This disc isn't bad, but there isn't anything to make it stand out in the field of Christian Adult Pop.
