This book is a must have for all gold seekers just starting out. If you live in the Southern California area and need to find a gold-bearing stream then this book will show you where. James Klein is a well respected member of the GPAA(Gold Prospectors of America Association). He's written many great books on the subject and is well learned in the art and practice of prospecting. The book also contains listed treasure stories of each area and he gives in depth detail of the surrounding areas and what to look for. He tells you of the roads you must take to reach the areas and gives great directions on getting there. Also in the book is a guide to starting your search for Gold, including a step by step procedure on how to pan, where to look for gold and the places in streams you'll most likely find gold. Anyone from the begginer to the expert will certainly enjoy this book! Happy Hunting!

I have only read about half of this book so far. It's easy to read and very interesting. The author discusses various prospecting sites "by region" rather than jumping from one part of the state to another. He describes the locations of many sites and how to get there. I have actually been to some of the sites (on camping and fishing trips). So I can attest that the directions and descriptions in the book are accurate. The book contains tidbits on the history of many sites, prospecting equipment, maps, photographs and tips on "where to look" once you get to your destination. There is also some great information on how to pan, how to determine where gold might be found, and how to stake an official claim. The author packs a lot of information into 100 pages. He gets right to the point and doesn't say more than is necessary. I'm glad the author was nice enough to share his knowledge. I respect people who are willing to share what they know. Also, I am very glad that I bought this book.
