5.0 out of 5 stars Melancholy. Beautiful. Stunning. AMAZING., January 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Where It Goes (Audio CD)
The first word that came to mind after listening to "Where It Goes" was 'amazing'. This is one of the most haunting CDs I've ever listened to, and by far one of the most beautiful. Lori combines a lovely voice, haunting bittersweet lyrics, a true gift for music, sincerity and undistilled raw emotion to create a masterpiece. Her songs, while dealing with topics many other artists have covered, manage to sound both utterly sincere and poignantly heartbreaking. Unlike many other artists, she puts her soul into her music, and it shows. Her lyrics are beautiful and poetic: "You are the/ Petal in the rose/ But watch out for those thorns." Her voice is amazing, and the instruments are great. But what impressed me most about this CD was its depth-- a nice contrast from the shallow, emotionless pop so rampant these days. No other album, with the exception of Sarah McLachlan's "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy", has moved me the way "Where It Goes" has.

My best advice to you? If you haven't heard this CD, do so RIGHT NOW. I promise, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Golden as any Palomino, September 25, 2001

This is Lori Carsons best album to date. It has the dark intensity and harsh beauty as her best work with the Golden Palominos and the lush minimalist production by Anton Fier adds to its power. Though I love all of her albums, I would recommend this as the perfect introduction to her solo work for those not familiar with this wonderful artist.

4.0 out of 5 stars Down - But Good, August 7, 2003

I can't even tell you what made me purchase this disk when it was released. Something must have intrigued me enough to purchase it. I was not a huge Golden Palominos fan - but whatever the reason, it was an inspired purchase.

I've been accused of liking 'down music' - or as a friend of mine says, 'down...but good'. This disk would qualify for that category. For the most part, the music and vocals are understated. Though sparsely arranged, the songs are complete - sometimes fragile, sometimes haunted, but always good.

"Petal" is certainly a stand-out track, but there are many ("Down Here", "Where It Goes"). I believe the disk is still in print - so if you have the opportunity to pick it up - I suggest you do so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply beautiful, February 16, 2001
This review is from: Where It Goes (Audio CD)
I had the opportunity to watch Lori Carson perform live at Tower Records Singapore during her promotional tour for this album. At once hooked, I rushed to purchase the CD and get her autograph. To this day the CD remains one of my most treasured possessions. This is one of those rare albums I can honestly call timeless.

4.0 out of 5 stars simply an intimate angel...., November 10, 2000

First time I saw Lori Carson was at Lillith Fair in MASS, in 1997, after the second song she performed, most of us were almost on the verge tears. She is SO intimate, so beautiful, so soft, and so touching. Her song "Waking To The Dream Of You" was about love lost, and daydreaming. "Petal" has great lyrics "you are the petal in a rose, watch out for those thorns", "Where It Goes" is just amazing" nice lush guitar, and a nice storyline. Lori Carson should have much more recognition, beacause she deserves it. She is one of the few talented singer songwritters around, and she is also a wonderful person, that all her fans adore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, May 14, 2000

I just love this CD. Every song is gorgeous and touching in its own way. Most have a rather mournful tone, dealing with lost and unrequited love, but Anyday and Christmas are quite happy and optimistic. The lyrics are great and very easy to identify with, and Lori's voice lends itself beautifully to the emotion of the songs. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars emotionally devastaing ,ultimately uplifting., October 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Where It Goes (Audio CD)
An artist of incrediably understated emotinal power. She crysyalizes with her lyrics the suffering and angst felt by lovers everywhere. She walks bravely through the minefield that is love and despite the devastation she finds there she still finds a way to offer hope to the broken hearted. If the power of her songs were all she had to offer that would be enough but her voice is truly a gift that I am glad she has chosen to share with the world. She avoids the cliche as she examines issues explored by artists for centuries. Do yourself a favor and listen to this woman. You won't be sorry....

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful., February 11, 1999

This is a beautifully done disc of mostly melancholy songs about love gone wrong. Tracks two and eight are my favorites. The music is simple and never overwhelms her delicate voice. See her in concert if you get the chance. Between songs she might deliver a joke in that breathy whisper of hers or give away a copy of her first disc (now out of print).

5.0 out of 5 stars She've suffered for our own good!, January 6, 1999
This review is from: Where It Goes (Audio CD)
"If I said all of this with just the right inflection, could we go on from here?" Carson's second solo album is a deep, emotive and sad journey through a Poet's soul. She sings about broken relationships as if she had just closed the door, and at the end we just want to call her and tell "I'll take care of you forever". It's one of the saddest albuns I've ever listened to, but also surely my alltime favorite. A petal in the rose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavenly, October 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Where It Goes (Audio CD)
This album is exquisite and I am constantly amazed at how such a beautiful album could have been followed 2 years later by such a patchy sequel. The simplicity of the tracks lets Carson's voice take control - in contrast to the second album where she almost seems to be fighting the music. With a voice this pure, who needs over-layered music.
