This film leads White House visitors through the halls and the history of the home of the President of the United States. A work in progress ever since it was first occupied in 1800 by President John Adams, the building has evolved with the nation and, today, each of the 132 rooms serves as a reminder of the events that have shaped the history of America. The tour begins with a welcome from First Lady Laura Bush in the library and continues through the majestic marble Entrance Hall into the State Rooms, featuring highlights of the historic furnishings and fine arts collection and glimpses of the behind-the-scenes activity in the flower shop kitchens. Historical footage provides a look back in time at such events as the 1902 building of the West Wing and the 1950s Truman Renovation. From the Oval Office in the West Wing of the White House, President George W. Bush welcomes the viewer to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue-the permanent address of the people and the temporary home of their leader-a house that belongs to all proud citizens of the United States of America.
