I've been a Pixies fan for a while now. First off, I am also a Weezer fan. I saw them in Detroit a few months back. But their cover of "Velouria" is simply not the best track on this album, as many claim. The original had an energy that the cover lacks. The better tracks are "Gouge Away" by Promise Ring, "Where is My Mind" by Nada Surf (musically better, but not better than the original by any stretch of the imagination) and, gulp, "Gigantic" by Reel Big Fish. I know, it's different, but cool in it's own right. Other notables include "Alec Eiffel" by The Get Up Kids and "Trompe Le Monde" by Braid. Do yourself a favor and buy everything ever released by the Pixies first, then get this to top it off. They are by far my favorite band. Rock.

I'll be honest, the only reason I bought this CD was for the Weezer cover. Being a huge Weez fan, I figured I should get it not only for them, but so I could get to know about this band who has influenced them so much. I loved this CD so much that I bought every one of The Pixies CD's I could get my greedy lil' hands on. Once I heard the original versions of all 15 songs, I found that it gave me a greater appreciation of the work all the artists on this album did. A lot of them really lived up to the legacy The Pixies created when they first jumped into the spotlight. Anyone who likes The Pixies (and can appreciate different perspectives), this is definitely a CD for you. And if you feel it isn't, then you should send your copy to me because I just can't get enough of it. :)

The Pixies are such a great band that they don't even need a tribute album, but I jumped at the chance to get this since so many of my favorite bands (Weezer, Far, Sense Field, Nada Surf, Local H etc) are included on it. And I am glad I did! I'm psyched about hearing a new Weezer track (albeit a cover) since they haven't put anything out for such a long time, and as usual they didn't disappoint. (And it's cool that they put a twist on the original "Velouria" instead of playing it note-for-note cause that would of been boring) Far's take on "Monkey Gone to Heaven" is amazing, in an eerie sort of way. And the Promise Ring are great as usual. I only wish such other Pixies classics as "Debaser" and "Bone Machine" were covered (the latter is without a doubt my favorite Pixies cut) but I guess maybe it's better they went untouched, cause they could have been messed up. But this is the next best thing to a new Pixies record and they only alternative, cause they've gone the way of the dodo.

Ignore the low ratings of some other reviewers, they all seem to be 4-5 or 1 ... some people get tribute albums then are upset it's not like the band, if you dont mind it not being 100% pixies style the music on here is great! Especially The Get Up Kids cover of Alec Eiffel... *WOW* Awesome cd!

I have just finished listening to all the snippets off the album, and I have to say the Weezer cut was not the best off the album. I personally liked the covers of Holiday Song, Gouge Away, and Where is My Mind. I'm just disappointed that the Toadies weren't apart of the tribute. They are a great band and would have captured the spirit of the album well (just listen to Tyler off of the Toadies Rubberneck album, amazing, with obvious Pixie influence). Buy the album because, hey, its the pixies, nuff said.

i will admit to not having heard the entire CD, but the very concept of marginal talents (like weezer, nada surf and eve 6) recording pixies songs for some misbegotten tribute is anathema to me. it's like being staked over a red ant hill. excruciating. there are literally hundreds of superior bands that have also cited the pixies as an influence. this label is reducing transcendent songs to little pop nuggets for weezer fans.it makes me want to smash my head on the punk rock.

so hey..its a cover album. get over it before you drop your 13 bucks. its more of a celebration of a great band that some weird reinvention of it. the track list worries me at times (esp. since jimmy eat world didn't end up on it), but suprisingly most of the bands come through with pretty good covers (weezer, nada surf, and sense field are the standouts that make this disc worth buying). easily the most listened to record of late summer.
