From the Inside Flap

3:00 PM FIRST PERIOD Patenaude gives the initial kick-off for the Americans by passing to Florie, who loses it. The Belgians attack rapidly through DeDeken who dangerously reaches the American area in a matter of seconds. Moorhouse intercepts sending the ball to the corner-line. Only a half minute has elapsed and there is already a corner-kick in favor of the "Red Devils." Left-wing Diddens gives a poor corner-kick, and the ball is intercepted and thrown forward by American left-back Wood.

At this point, we will narrate the initial 25 minutes identically as the commentators from the time. We are obliged to omit the minutes of playing-time as they are not mentioned, but we will strictly follow the chronological order of the match. After consulting the several sources, the consensus as of how the match developed after Wood’s interception, is as follows:

- A rapid American in-depth attack is stopped with foul by Voorhoof against Auld. - Adams misses a goal opportunity after a Belgian attack. - The American counterattack ends with an unfruitful corner-kick by the Americans. - Belgium attacks again, obliging Wood to send the ball to the corner-line. Diddens shots the corner-kick without result. - New attack of the Belgian forwards, Auld is obliged to send to the outball line. - Another Belgian attack "with lots of impetus", the quoted comment belongs to a journalist who can be regarded as the match’s most faithful chronicler. - An American attack by Florie is stopped due to offside. - A Belgian counterattack led by Adams, sending a long pass to right-wing Versijp, who centers a shot easily intercepted by American goalkeeper Douglas.
