THIS IS HOW POWER METAL SHOULD BE PLAYED - NO [] BALLADS!,
By Joao Holzer Rodrigues (Rio de Janeiro, RJ Brazil) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Where Mankind Fails (Audio CD)
If you want a tight, concise power metal with great riffs and dual guitar soloing attacks this is a must have. I'm tired to listen to stratovarius, hammerfall and other bands who always include some ballads on their playlist, the best here is that there is NO BALLADS!! just powerful non-stop medium and fast speed songs! The vocal just stands to hold the base lines, but is not really bad... forget the other reviewers who said so, just get it!!!

Steel Attack - Where Mankind Fails,
By thepaxdomini "The Book Review" (Tulsa, OK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Where Mankind Fails (Audio CD)
"Where Mankind Fails" (1999) is the first album by Swedish power metal band Steel Attack. This album has a fairly generic feel to it: the energy is high, the originality is low, and the lyrics are about warriors and dragons and such.
The drumming and guitar work on "Where Mankind Fails" tend to be very fast and quite good. Singer Steven Steel has a great metal name, but only an average voice. There's no truly amazing track on the album, and nothing is unbearable (although "Thunder Knight", with its very cheesy chorus, is close). As a debut album, this is decent. But a little more creativity would be nice.

Not just a clone, but a full step in Power Metal. Heavy guitars, Thick bass lines & tremendous double bass outline this great band from Sweden. Very catchy lyrics from a very good singer.

What power metal is all about.,
By
This review is from: Where Mankind Fails (Audio CD)
An amazing debut album coming from the metal powerhouse country of Sweden. The album has 11 songs with speedy and technical guitar work, thundering and complex drumming, and the distinctive vocals of Steven Steel, which make you want to learn all the songs and join in with his fantasy power metal hymns. The dual guitar attack of John Allen and Dennis Vestman is breath-taking on the entire album, especially so on "Forgotten Land" and the mid-paced song "Village of Agabba" is an instant classic in the power metal field. A fantastic work from beginning to end from this Swedish quartet, who may very well be the next flag-bearers for power metal.

Who are they, why do people give them poor reviews. Steel Attack doesnt have any similarity with any band out there. I just love it, im looking forward for the next release. I didnt give them 5 stars only because the vocals are hard to get used to, they end up looking good though.

Good Enough, But Boring,
By MetalFanNY (New York) - See all my reviews

It's a nice album, but like many Scandinavian power metal bands' releases it is somewhat monotonous. Still worth listening, of course. There is a new generation of power metal emerging now - ASPIRE, ZANDELLE (both from New York), who bring the music to the whole different level.

"WHERE MANKIND FAILS" Is Formula Fun,
By Tony G. (Nanuet, New York United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Where Mankind Fails (Audio CD)
Steel Attack is another in the long line of power metal bands popping up throughout Europe. Their debut album entitled "WHERE MANKIND FAILS" has just been released on July 11, 2000. Earlier that very day I just found out about the band and the album and decided to go and pick it up that night. Indeed, "WHERE MANKIND FAILS" is predominantly a formula power metal album. Having said that, it is also a highly enjoyable and melodic disc with some songs that are just so damn catchy, you'll find yourself singing them under your breath out of nowhere. The initial three tracks are probably the best, with track 3 ("Island Of Gods") being THE highlight of the album, but every song is enjoyable in a generic sort of way. Fans of Hammerfall and Nocturnal Rites should REALLY enjoy this album and brand new band!

Before I started thoroughly enjoying Mid career Helloween, the most underated Band in the U.S., but at the same time, and I cannot stress this enough! The most Influental band in the U.K, yes even more influental than Iron Maiden.Hey if you don't believe me check out the tribute Album's!On those Album's you'll find the crem de la crem of all power metal including this band,( STEEL ATTACK ) doing a song I myself can't stand Dr.Stein.I find it so silly, unlike Starlight, and March of time to name just a couple of their better song's.But you have to take Heavy Metal a little less serious when it comes to Power Metal. The music itself is more about fun song's rather than death doom and despair, while at the same time just like Helloween and Steel Attack maintaining an EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY IN MUSICAL EXCELLENCE,NOT TO MENTION SPEED. That the Majority of U.S. band's don't have, and probably will never have agian! In this age of Rap metal, and the totally untrue saying that simpler's better,I personally think band's say that so they can get away with being a band that never show's how good they can be,if infact their any good to begin with, that in which I strongly doubt. Now to get back to this band Steel Attack,I Absolutely love'em,they are indeed what TRUE POWER SPEED METAL'S all about. With song's like Dragon Skull, and Where Mankind fail's like most Power Metal it's all focused highly on Fantasy. The only slight problem with this album is that his leric's might through you for a loop, especially if you'r not already into power metal. With leric's like (Deep in there what will be found, the smell is a stench never felt by man.)You see that leric alone can make you think what were those guy's thinking.I'll tell you what they were probably thinking. They were probably thinking with leric's this outlandish poeple will either hate us for having it, or love the complete, and utter originality of it all, and that's what I like about this group...Amongst many other thing's...So Buy this Album...I also strongly recommend Mid Career Helloween, and Dark Moor, they also have an amazing vocalist, not Michael Kiske, but still exceptional, there's also Nocturnal Rites old and new,Falconer,Rhapsody,Sonata Arctica,Wizard,Nevermore, and many more including Blind Gaurdian which is very exceptional Metal very Tolkienesk at time's may the god's bless'um.I mean they're not alway's very power metal, but that's alright Because I don't discriminate. It's all cut from the same cloth to me...The sooner people learn that the sooner we can quit are little petty differences when it comes to Fantasy Metal...Because that's basically what it all is,atleast the Majority of it anyway...

could have been good,if it werent for the vocals.,,
By "moonknight_of_twilight" (somewhere) - See all my reviews

Great guitars, fast, virtuous, with a Gamma Ray feel, good overal instrumental work ,could have been a great album,BUT the one little thing that completely lays this cd to the waste is the absolutely horrid vocals., the "pseudo" singer is a half-rap half-trash hibrid, that has no place here at all.. Don't buy this...unless you intend to remaster it and eliminate the vocals on it,.
