5.0 out of 5 stars Very CLASSY and TASTEFUL timeless melodic music!
'Where We Started From' is a stellar, crafty pop release, period! The quality songs are well written, with heartfelt, beautiful vocals & harmonies, and clockwork musicianship!! 3.0 out of 5 stars Welcome Back
As a LRB fan from way back, I was pleased to hear this new CD. Wayne Nelson (who sang lead vocals for The Night Owls) is now lead singer and does an adequate job. I miss former lead vocalist Glenn Shorrock - but that's part of the past for now. Where We Started From, Who Made the Moon and Lead Me to Water are the stand out songs for me. 3.0 out of 5 stars Welcome Back, July 30, 2001
This review is from: Where We Started From (Audio CD)
As a LRB fan from way back, I was pleased to hear this new CD. Wayne Nelson (who sang lead vocals for The Night Owls) is now lead singer and does an adequate job. I miss former lead vocalist Glenn Shorrock - but that's part of the past for now. Where We Started From, Who Made the Moon and Lead Me to Water are the stand out songs for me. The remakes of Night Owls and Cool Change are pleasant but unnecessary. Overall, the vocals are classic LRB. Wayne and Stephen Housden - the only remaining players from the 80's - are joined by 3 newcomers who live up to expectations. This is no groundbreaking masterpiece, but the more you play it, the more it sticks with you. If you are a LRB fan, this is worth adding to your collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a tribute band., July 20, 2004
By
This review is from: Where We Started From (Audio CD)
Fact 1-There is not one original founding member of Little River band in this tribute band.
Fact 2-This group's owner used court action to prevent the three original founding members,Beeb Birtles,Glen Shorrock and Graeme Goble from having the name. Just imagine if Lennon,MacCartney and Harrison had been denied the right to record as the Beatles.
Fact 3-Birtles,Goble and Shorrock wrote all the US Billboard top 40 hits of LRB. Just check the albums for their names.
Fact 4-This album from this tribute band does not sound anything like the original group.
This isn't about changing members as one poster(possibly from the group)claimed. This is about the originals being denied their name by these imposters who then had the gall to record with the name that they appropiated off the real members. Disgraceful conduct as are some of these dubious reviews. How could an album with not one original singer get such 5 star reviews unless the bands members voted a few times.

Some songs like 'Magazine Girl' are more uptempo than others, such as the masterful gorgeous 'Who Made the Moon'. Even the remakes of the classic 'Night Owls' and 'Cool Change' sound so original, and are truly played from another angle. The CD itself must have been recorded and mastered with care, given it's sonic quality and crisp soundstage and depth. Kudos to the band, and let's hope this is a taste of what's to come from LRB! The current band incarnation just kills!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars What's in a name?, August 8, 2001

While this is not the "original" lineup that we knew and loved way back when, there's no denying that this is a great album. The hallmarks of LRB have always been great songwriting and tight, killer harmonies, and that's exactly what you'll get with this disc. Bands change members all the time. Who cares that this is not Glenn Shorrock and the boys? Call it anything you want - it all comes down to good music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty darn good!!!, August 8, 2001
This review is from: Where We Started From (Audio CD)
While I certainly understand the previous reviewer's criticism, I think it is unnecessarily harsh. I too wasn't expecting much with this release. Little River Band has never been known for consistency among band members, so I was prepared for new voices. However, this was the first studio record they've released without any songs written by Graham Goble, Beeb Birtles, or Glenn Shorrock, the men responsible for LRB's trademark sound... breathtaking harmonies, and complex, difficult key changes.

That said, there are still some great songs on this CD. I particularly enjoy "I Think I Left My Heart With You", "Who Made the Moon", and "American Way". Maybe they aren't Little River Band songs as we're used to hearing them. But give the CD a chance, you may be as pleasantly surprised as I was.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Good, So Refreshing, September 28, 2001

"nyrube" (Culver City, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Where We Started From (Audio CD)
I recently saw this band at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles a few days after our country was attacked. I did not know what to expect? Frankly, half the people did not show up for the concert.

I was taken back by the patriotism of this group, as the lead singer is from Memphis, and most of the band is from down under. They did many of their old songs that made them famous, and most of their new album. I believe they said it was 12 years since they had recorded.

Well, "American Way" was on the top of their list, and for good reasons. This song was full of feeling and made me proud to be an American. "Cool Change" was another of their smooth flowing songs that I found delightful. Probably the most stirring of their songs was "Who Made the Moon". It is about a little girl
and her thoughts and dreams.

Usually bands fade out with their voices and their music seems to be turned up to compensate for this aging. No so with "The Little River Band." Their voices are as good in person as their new CD. Frankly speaking, their new CD is so good that all songs are fine in quality and stand alone in excellence.

This is one fine band with a GREAT new CD. A must for you fans and doubters.

Yes, they are back! Find out for yourself. I did and was impressed. New songs, old craftmenship! What a pleasure to listen to. They don't let you down. Stephen and Wayne are the old guards and the new blood, Kevin, Glenn and Greg take you to new musical heights. "Who made the moon" brought tears to my eyes. We lost a child as well. Thanks guys, your the best!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Talent Continues, April 18, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Where We Started From (Audio CD)
This CD features 9 new beautifully written/performed songs which is especially nice, since there have been quite a few Greatest Hits or "Best of" compilations released over the last few years. Hopefully this will be the beginning of many new CDs/songs from this talented bunch. I liked most of the songs immediately, but after seeing/hearing LRB perform 7 of these new songs live many times and being a part of the energy they create, I now have a greater appreciation for the CD and the talent that went into making it. I also really enjoy the new versions of two of their older fan favorites, "Night Owls" and "Cool Change". LRB is one of those rare bands that actually sound BETTER live than they do on record.....and their records are always done to perfection. As a musician I know how difficult that is to do. It's because of their raw talent. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who has ever been a fan of LRB's music. Better yet, after buying this CD, go see them live... Chances are you'll come away feeling and knowing you've just witnessed the finest band on the planet. I love the music on this CD. It's the Little River Band and we are so fortunate and blessed that they still exist. I have been a fan of Little River Band since the beginning, and since the beginning, there have been MANY personnel/lineup changes over the years. The original members have come and gone......some more than once. Who knows, maybe they will appear again and then disappear later. Why do I remain a fan after so many changes? It's because of the MUSIC and the talented musicians playing it. Like all the various LRB lineups over the years, this one has their own unique sound while still sounding like LRB. The vocals, instrumentation and song writing have always been top notch regardless of personnel, and THIS LINEUP with LRB veterans Stephen Housden and Wayne Nelson along with the incredible talents of Greg Hind, Glenn Reither and Kevin Murphy continues in that tradition and is my favorite lineup since the Playing To Win era. I encourage you to listen to the song samples from Where We Started From and judge for yourselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long time coming but worth the wait., April 18, 2003
This review is from: Where We Started From (Audio CD)
It's been so many years since the Little River Band released any new music I was anxious about this new cd. Would the evolved LRB measure up to the lineups of the 70's and 80's. Yes!!! I was delighted. So many good songs! And those vocals...powerful as ever. The harmonies on the title track are as strong as anything in LRB's long history. After listening to it dozens of times since it was released, I'm still enjoying it. And I've found that most people I've talked to who have the cd have a different favorite track. It's a great gift for people who like timeless soft and middle of the road rock with strong vocals.
