4.0 out of 5 stars Well researched. Written with dedication., July 4, 2006
This review is from: Where the Sun Stood Still: The Untold Story of Sir Jacob Vouza and the Guadalcanal Campaign (Hardcover)
This book not only tells the story of the first Japanese defeat on land, but gives the reader the perspective from several angles --- including the Japanese military. The central figure is Sir Jacob Vouza, an extraordinary native of the Solomon Islands who was knighted for his role in saving the outmanned American outpost at Guadalcanal. This is not a blood and guts war story, but a well documented history. The author has done an excellent job of describing what life was like during the crucial year that the Japanese high command made the recapture of Guadalcanal its highest priority.
