About the Author

Born in India on January 5, 1893, Paramahansa Yogananda devoted his life to helping people of all races and creeds to realize and express more fully in their lives the true beauty, nobility, and divinity of the human spirit. After graduating from Calcutta University in 1915, Sri Yogananda took formal vows as a monk of India's venerable monastic Swami Order. Two years later, he began his life's work with the founding of a how-to-live school since grown to twenty-one educational institutions throughout India where traditional academic subjects were offered together with yoga training and instruction in spiritual ideals. In 1920, he was invited to serve as India's delegate to an International Congress of Religious Liberals in Boston. His address to the Congress and subsequent lectures on the East Coast were enthusiastically received, and in 1924 he embarked on a cross-continental speaking tour. Over the next three decades, Paramahansa Yogananda contributed in far-reaching ways to a greater awareness and appreciation in the West of the spiritual wisdom of the East. In Los Angeles, he established an international headquarters for Self-Realization Fellowship, the nonsectarian religious society he had founded in 1920. Through his writings, extensive lecture tours, and the creation of Self-Realization Fellowship temples and meditation centers, he introduced hundreds of thousands of truth-seekers to the ancient science and philosophy of Yoga and its universally applicable methods of meditation. Today, the spiritual and humanitarian work begun by Paramahansa Yogananda continues under the direction of Sri Mrinalini Mata, one of his closest disciples and president of Self-Realization Fellowship/Yogoda Satsanga Society of India since 2011. In addition to publishing his writings, lectures and informal talks (including a comprehensive series of Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons for home study), the society also oversees temples, retreats, and centers around the world.

As one of Yogananda's advanced students once said, ''I don't know how anyone can keep his sanity amidst the pressures of this modern world without the help of a true spiritual guru.'' This collection of Yogananda's inspired insights into our divine nature - and the challenges posed by our oppressive materialistic environments - is a powerful way to keep a true spiritual master's guidance at one's side.
In a moment of distress or spiritual need, just open to any page and you will feel this master's wisdom lifting burdens off your shoulders.
Highly recommended... for both the newcomer to spiritual awakening and the veteran devotee. EXCELLENT GIFT for friends or family who may be new to Yogananda's brilliance or to Eastern spirituality as a whole.

I found this book to be truly amazing in it's wisdom. The author who died in body in 1952 has truly wrote a post-newtonian book on transformation. The movie "What the bleep" has nothing to add over the wisdom and teachings of this book. The author has a complete understanding of the ideas of Candice Pert who wrote "Molecules of Emotion," which came out recently, but Paramahansa Yogananda was writing about these concepts over half a century ago. Paramahansa Yogananda takes it a notch further and brings in the spiritual domain where the real transformation occurs.

This book "Where There Is Light," gives great tools in the form of instruction in using meditation and affirmation to change the patterns of thought that have become like grooves in our brains. So many of us have been stuck in repeating the same habits over and over again and we have all felt the frustration and suffering of being a slave to habits we want to be rid of. This book gives the answer to being free.

This book is truly a gift of mercy and compassion for all those who truly wish to lighten up and start living a life of more comfort and ease. Reading and following the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda takes the struggle out of life, and all for the small price of a paper back book.

I agree, 5 stars are not enough for this book of life enhancing
enlightening snippets of Yogananda's love and light.
Actually, I also read His "Autobiography of a Yogi"
which I very highly recommend [only in the orange cover!].

Yet this booklet of candid wisdom bites throws a lot more light
on Paramahansa Yogananda's SRF publishers. One can see from
this and other works that the changes made to His "Autobiography"
are truly in harmony with the masters final teachings and vision.

Where There is Light will give one a sense of Yogananda's real
value to modern spiritual thought, as well as his great contributions
to philosophy and psychology. The statements in the small book show
us how to make full use of one of this ages greatest life coaches.
Really! there are so many transformational teachers in America are
sharing Yogananda's concepts and works and methods.
Give credit where it is due!

My book is highlighted, tabbed, written in and dogeared! When life is good...know that there will be change. When life is not so good and you are having a struggle, pick up Where There Is Light and flip it open. Don't just read the pages, DO the pages. The problems you thought you have may still be there but you are in a better place in your mind if you let the words sink in and guide you. The bad times also pass. Life is a roller coaster.

The Table of Contents gives you an idea of where in the book you need to go for what is troubling you right now. This is not a book you have to read cover to cover like a novel...but you can.

This book is a collection of Paramahansa Yogananda's quotations and short paragraphs culled from other talks--the editors are to be complimented for their fine work.
As a great yogi and Vedantist, Yogananda is well known. He gave numerous talks and trained many monastic disciples and a few lay persons at close quarters. He always told many practical things as seen in this book. No doubt these pages will show the "Light" to anyone with lot of stress, materialistic burdens and lack of spiritual insight. It is amazing that Yogananda spoke those words almost 60 years ago.! This book is meant to be constantly referred to.

this book contains direct and penetrating wisdom to rise above any negative situations or events that Life may throw at one.
In addition there is such joy and beauty in the writing and power behind the words to lift the spirit and mind to better attunement with Reality.
Religion does not matter---Truth is Truth and this little book is a shining example of Truth. Direct, clear, not ego bound in the least....a wonderful gift. I keep several in my home and have given copies to many people who have thanked me deeply for the gift.
I wish I had only had recourse to this gem earlier in my life.
