5.0 out of 5 stars Smouldering Love, February 1, 2010

This review is from: Where There's Smoke 2 (Paperback)
Alec "Smoke" Avery and Breanne "Anne" Phillips's flame still burns for each other after twenty years. They begin to build a life together with their college-bound son, Isaiah and their newest bundle of joy, Iris. However, where there's smoke...there's flaming drama.

Riding on a full scholarship, Isaiah leaves home to attend the college of his choice. He excels in his classes, becomes a basketball star, and dates one of the most beautiful woman on campus. Trouble is following Isaiah from back home and his college days and his life may be over. When Smoke and Anne get wind, of this...well let's just say nobody comes between a mother lion and her cub. Will Smoke step back into his past to protect what belongs to him?

Although Smoke sometimes feels Anne doesn't need him, the passion between them burns fiery, red-hot. However, just when they are ready to become one, someone from Smoke's past desperately wants to put that fire out and the truth which lead Anne down a destructive path so many years ago is finally brought to light.

Captivating, hilarious, and highly spiced, WHERE THERE'S SMOKE 2: When the Smoke Clears will keep you turning the pages non-stop. The author brings the characters back with the same spunk and spitfire as in Where There's Smoke. The explosive scenes come to life and the love Anne holds for her family is well expressed. Another great novel for urban fiction lovers but I recommend this novel to read by everyone.

This book was hilarious, I just love Ann the way she takes charge and draw attention to her self without her trying, Smoke is all male and I thought my father was crazy, pleeeeeassse he can't touch half of the things Smoke does, and Zay love for his mother is sweet and he got the ladies in his back 100%, I love little Iris she knows she got her whole family wrapped around her finger. I thought the first book was good and than Terra goes and knock me down with this. I just know I will follow every book she comes out with because she just an excellent author. Can't wait for your next book and hope Smoke story continues. I just love the whole family.

5.0 out of 5 stars When the Smoke Clears..., February 14, 2010
This review is from: Where There's Smoke 2 (Paperback)
...Will everything be intact? Or will the remains be charred and filled with soot, only? Well, the smoke does clear and rise....right to the top! Join Terra Little as she takes us on a roller coaster ride for sure!

The reader should be advised to buckle up right at the forward of this novel ....for you will be riding in the fast lane...For Ms. Little is taking nothing for granted and leaving behind no prisoners....either you are going to fasten your seat belt, sit back and enjoy the tumultuous traverse or you need not embark.
Back with a lot more baggage then before are Smoke, Anne, and Isaiah. But this time the supporting characters Alice, Laverne, Dino, Erica, and even baby girl Iris, bring their own drama.

Where there's Smoke 2, returns and in full force. Ms. Little doesn't squander any time in getting to the point! She hooks you from the very beginning. There isn't an arid moment in this Smokey Ride....but check yourself coming out ...for when the smoke clears you want to make sure that all vital parts are still intact!
If you are looking for humor, love, drama, sexiness, and a first-rate story ...then this is just the book for you. It has it all!

Ms. Little writes with conviction and realism. You can feel the energy she exerts ....you laugh ...you cry...you will sweat... and, yes, you will definitely not want this story to end.

Terra does the dayum thing in this, her junior novel. She has proven she is a written force to be reckon with and she should claim her tiara as she enters this arena.

For Ms. Little has a swagger that only a few in this literary field has. Take your place Ms. Little, front and center.

Kudos to you for yet, another page turner.

This sequel was well worth waiting for. Alec and Anne get together and they move in together along with their son Isaiah and their new baby, Iris. Alec aka smoke is still messing around with ex girl friend, Diana who is determined to get him back. Isaiah goes to college and someone from his past comes back into his life to destroy him. But his momma ain't having it. Smoke and Anne go to great lengths to straighten up their son's mess. A great read. Looking forward to reading more of Ms. Little's books. I highly recommend the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series!, February 28, 2010
This review is from: Where There's Smoke 2 (Paperback)
OMG! Is about all I can say, I loved both books from beginning to end. It's such a FARRRR cry from many books by our black authors. Ms. Little has set a new standard for all authors, especially black authors in all genres. She was able to input, street life, family, love, drama, old demons, crazy humor you name it into the two books! I love the way she ended the first book as though it was done instead of a cliffhanger so there wasn't a super expectation for the second book. I don't think most even expected a second book, but it was just as good, just as realistic and humor filled, I loved the non main characters and how they talked like Dino. And though Anne is a drama queen she wasn't one of the ones you got tired of, she was a REAL mother, more funny, calculating, and manipulative than irritating so you loved to see her coming. One thing was for sure, she loved her family meaning Smoke, Isaiah and Iris and instead of being super sensitive to her past life, she accepted, embraced and dealt with it leaving no power for others to steal her joy by talking about her being an ex-crackhead...that is until you talked about her kids (All REAL Mama's stand up!) She was a true blue Mama who raised herself up out of the dark into the light and kept it moving making something of herself and giving her son a real life, well tried to at least. Yes she had her faults but she eventually dealt with them and in a graceful way, she didn't care about people calling her a crackhead even though that life was over for her by the time her son was born, she could care less what others thought of her, and she rolled with the punches, that is until she pulled her kids into it then she got that grit from her old days and dealt with you lol.
I loved Smoke/Alec's smoothness, zeal, no BS manor, humor and love for his family even if he did make mistakes. He learned of his son when he was 16 years old and came in with a storm and never left despite Isaiahs protest, smart ass mouth, and testing of the waters. Isaiah is a boy we can all relate too, especially in how he talks about his parents and things around him. From his first really meeting Smoke to his being in College and all the crazy funny stuff in between. Even little Iris had her input, all in all Ms. Little did her 'THANG' with these books! I will say from Wahida Clark, Keisha Ervin and Nikki Turner to Donna Hill, Rochelle Alers and Brenda Jackson, they ALL better look out and step up their game. All good stories don't have to be about drug dealing, name dropping or overly exaggerated romances, there is a fine line in the middle. I am a new Ms. Little fan, her, Tu-Shonda Whitaker, Adrianne Byrd and Trista Russell have set a new standard, but thus far, Ms. Little is at the top, I absolutely LOVED these books, they are the best I've read in a long time, I guess because I can relate much better my child was 16 when I was 31 and yes she had it WAYYY better than me and her Dad lol. Even she read these books(yes I made her) and cracked up while reading it because even she could relate, my daughter is now 17 and on her way to Stanford come this August/September.
I'm about tired of all the street lit drug dealer, designer women stories, it's only so many ways you can talk about being a drug dealer or a drug dealers girl wearing all the name brand fashions and their lives, to many Authors are doing it like it's only so many bling bling songs you can listen too, after a while they all sound the same. Like their is only so many romances that start off with two corny people (Brenda Jackson and Adrianne Byrd are the only ones who don't make it overly corny) and I love it, I love the 'in between' stories. I love telling about real mothers and fathers, not the sometimers or the ones who buy their kids expensive mess but spend no time with them teaching them the real ways of the world. Thank You Ms. Little for setting the bar!

5.0 out of 5 stars Family Ties, February 21, 2010
This review is from: Where There's Smoke 2 (Paperback)
"Where There's Smoke 2" gives readers another glimpse into the lives of Smoke and Anne. It's a few years later and we find their son, Isaiah, away at college and they've welcomed a new addition to the family - Iris. Things are good. But as is life, how quickly things can change. Smoke's ex, Diana, is bent on interrupting their happily ever after. Though things are better, or at least tolerable, with Anne and her mother, her insecurities and resentment are never far from the surface. And someone is making trouble for Isaiah. Where there's smoke, is there still fire?

I enjoyed "Where There's Smoke 2's" intimate portrayal of this family with all their idiosyncrasies, and most importantly the love they share. I like that Little featured real people in a real relationship with real problems. With skill, she enlists us to care about these characters. And, in the process, she delivers a very good book.

Little gives just enough information from book one to remind previous readers and bring new readers up to speed without making the error of retelling the story. The only thing I didn't care for was that she seemed to let the narration get away from her, at some point, with too many narrators (Erica, Dino, Alice and Iris).

"Where There's Smoke 2" is easily recommendable. Terra Little gives another solid presentation. I look forward to what she has in store for readers next.

4.0 out of 5 stars AAMBC Book Reviews, February 20, 2010
This review is from: Where There's Smoke 2 (Paperback)
I must say I missed these character in the first installment and I am pleased to say I wasn't disappointed although the drama wasn't at its highest as the first you defiantly will enjoy this read. So Ann, Smoke, and Isiah are back. Ann has started to live like the wife she would never though she would be and well Alec lets just say a man can be tempted by another. So when everything seems to be hitting them hard all at once they start to play mind games. Isaiah away at college is on cloud nine. A great school career a new love and his parents are together. That is until a blast from his past wants him to remember where he cam from. Ms Little delivered another turn pager for me and I was happy to get to see these characters rise all above the drama. But the ride there was crazy but juicy to read. Another great read from Terra Little.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Woman to woman...this is my man...', February 14, 2010
This review is from: Where There's Smoke 2 (Paperback)
Alec "Smoke" Avery and Breanne "Anne" Phillips have overcome numerous obstacles and their roads of life have lead them back together again for the love of Isaiah. Four years, a united family and one `Iris' later, they've found their common rhythm, the love is even stronger, yet Anne is still adjusting to Smoke's aggressive testosterone vibe. Insecurities are causing waves in their joint accomplishments as well as old bones of their past resurfacing that should have remained buried.

Dirty Diana is back with a vengeance and malice in her heart causing Smoke to lose his usual cool aura with threats of destroying his happy home. Anne is growing frustrated with the role as Suzie Homemaker while battling haunting memories of her childhood abuse as her mother seeks a relationship with her and her family. Isaiah is in college balling his heart out while macking a luscious Jamaican hottie that has his nose open wide enough for a Mack truck.

Can Smoke fix this without Anne being any the wiser? If the roles were reversed, what kinda man is the real Smoke? Can he take the heat, or will he stay on the porch with the pooch? Is Isaiah playing dangerous games that he may not be able to charm his way out of? Can this family find forgiveness in their hearts for past hurts? Will true love prevail or will their insecurities be too much and too many to battle? And last but not least, what is lil Ms. Iris really talking about?

Where There's Smoke II is the much sought after continuation to a love song that will go down in history as mesmeric as well as memorable. Ms. Little created a storyline that torched a flare that captured our minds and imaginations with two very relatable and intriguing individuals whose tragic beginnings led them on the road of hard knocks, yet they conquered numerous demons and gave the readers a chance to exhale. Ripe with even more realistic trials, tribulations and fences to mend, WTS2 is even more compelling than our initial introduction to the Avery's and Phillips family. Love, romance, infidelity, jealousy, sexuality, abuse, racketeering, humor and forgiveness, are just a few emotions that you'll encounter on this spellbinding journey with Smoke and Anne. Terra even introduces us to 'baby talk'...ingenious! I loved it! Ms. Little, I highly commend you on this follow-up read into the lives that you've endeared to your readers with even more gusto and riveting scenes that causes us to pause, re-evaluate, and step outside the box. Did you do the `damn thang'? Mos def! Was it better the second time around? Mos def! Did you leave us feeling all warm and fuzzy inside? Mos def! Do we want a little more? WhatCHU think? Kudo's mamacita! Keep that pen spinning these magnificent love songs with lyrics and tunes that only you can produce!!! Marvelous, mos def!!!
