5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise!
Considering the super cheesy cover and the cost ($0.95), I didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did.
It's cute, funny, and captivating - I finished the book in about 4 hours even though I didn't intend to read it in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down!
I enjoyed it so much more than the last few books I read - which I paid full price for...

I'll probably even read it again in a few months.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kastles and Kilts, December 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It is the first book I read on my Kindle 3. I read it in one day. I loved the scenery and felt at times I was standing there.
I did not give it Five Stars only because I think it could of gone a little bit more into the Great Uncle before he died and the why's. I also felt the end of the book could of been a bigger finale. I would of liked just a little bit more layering of everything. The book spoke of connections to Scotland from a foreigner feeling like she belonged to a native never wanting to leave. How wonderful to read a book and feel at times you were there and that you yourself felt connected and I am not even Scottish. I really did not understand how the town people haunting the castle would make her want to stay. That is where I wish there were more layering.. but the book read smoothly. It just needed a bit more tweaking. I am glad and happy that I chose it to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where There's a Will, January 4, 2010
This review is from: Where There's a Will (Paperback)
When her great uncle dies and leaves her a house and partial castle in Scotland, Chloe Sullivan thinks a short trip to Glen Dunn is in order to sort things out, sell the land, and come back to America and her job as a financial consultant. What Chloe doesn't count on is her uncle's bizarre will. If Chloe wants the land to be sold to one of the townspersons, she has to stay in Scotland for a month. And if Chloe wants to actually keep her inheritance, she has to marry a Scot within a month. Her uncle is even so helpful as to provide a potential husband, Malcolm MacTavish.

Chloe may not want to marry someone to keep her inheritance, but she has no problem spending a month in the Highlands with the handsome Malcolm. He's sexy, charming, and kind. What more could a woman want? Though she knows their relationship isn't meant to last, Chloe can't help but wonder what it would be like if she could stay. But when Malcolm finds out about the will, will their newfound love be crushed by broken trust?

Where There's a Will took me on an enchanting journey to the Highlands of Scotland where humor, history, and romance were deftly spun together to create a story that is simply wonderful. Katriena Knights has created an entire cast of characters that I would love to know in real life and a town that completely endeared itself to me. As for the hero and heroine of the tale, Chloe is straightforward, intelligent, and keeps her cool even when she's slightly out of her depths. She's the kind of person that, were she real, I could see myself being friends with. Malcolm is a fantastic hero. He's patient, thoughtful, and oh-so-deliciously attractive. Malcolm is just perfect enough to make him a sigh-worthy hero and just imperfect enough to make him feel like he could be real.

Ms. Knights weaves in a lot of Scottish history into the story, which I found to be delightful. Ms. Knights clearly loves the country she wrote about and it comes through in the writing, the excitement coming off the page so clearly that I could not help but be swept away by it. From beginning to end, Where There's a Will is truly a pleasure to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Romance, January 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Where There's a Will (Paperback)
I got this book's kindle version by chance as I had nothing else to read. I was pleasantly suprised by how good the story was. The hero is a Scottish man for whom Scotland is the very air he breathes. The heroine is an American of Scottish origin who is visiting Scotland. The interaction between both of them was very sweet, romantic and even hot in places. Both H&H were very likeable characters and all the supporting characters in the Scottish town where this story takes place were just as interesting. Though a contemporary romance, bits of Scottish history is brought to life in the story. The vivid description of places in Scotland was enchanting as well & makes me want to go there soon. The story was so good that I'll be watching out for more from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars a leisurely paced but enjoyable story, May 16, 2010

This review is from: Where There's a Will (Paperback)
Reading this story was like taking a small vacation in Scotland. Ms. Knight introduces the current culture of Scotland, it's many beautiful sights, foods, music, night life and people while telling the story of a young Scottish American's journey in to her heritage and into her heart. The love that develops between Chloe and Malcolm does not take center stage within the story, I felt the authors main point was the revealing of information about one's heritage and the pull it can have, almost as if it was always a part of who you are. She touches on the many ghosts that inhabit the country's castles and it was a fast enjoyable read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read, February 3, 2011

This book was a pleasant surprise. The story captures your attention from the beginning and keeps through the end. This was romance at its finest. After reading this book, I felt like I had visited Scotland and couldn't wait to go back. The author did a great job of developing romance between Chloe and Malcolm, and you can't help but fall in love with Aunt Agnes.

This book was definitely worth more the 95 cents I paid for it. I would recommend this book to anyone love contemporary romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smart & Sexy Romance in Scotland, January 21, 2011
This was a really fun read. Malcolm is smart, sexy and has an accent to swoon over. Makes me wish I married a Scot to hear the brogue whispered in my own ear. Its clear where the conflict is going to be from the get-go, but its how is will play out in the story that keeps it in suspense. The chemistry between Malcolm and Chloe is evident, the settings are romantic, and the sex is lustful, bot not graphic. It is well worth the $.95 price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet romance, January 8, 2011

I'm not usually crazy about contemporary romance but I really enjoyed this book. The setting gave me a real feel for Scotland and reminded me of our time there. The characters were appealing and realistic - I liked the fact that despite their connection, they both thought about what they were doing. The romance was really sweet. I finished the book with a smile on my face.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes me long to go to Scotland so bad!, February 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I got this book for free on Kindle and did I luck out!!!! "Where There's a Will" was outstanding. I love Scotland and I have never read a Scottish contemp romance. All my Scottish reads have all been historical and usually there is an alpha male swinging a broadsword. I totally loved reading about modern day Scotland.

The setting is more the west coast of Scotland. Chloe Sullivan lands in Glasgow and the needs to travel five hours driving all around Loch Long to a small town Glen Dunn which was nestled in the middle of the Argyll Peninsula. (LOL I needed to write that down for future reference)

The setting alone was a character in the book and it made me long to go to Scotland even more. I loved this book because it was just so real.

Chloe comes to Scotland because her escentric great uncle passes away and wills her a cottage and a "castle". The castle is really a broken down fake ruin but the land is beautiful and highly desirable.
Her uncle's lawyer sends a friend Malcolm to the airport to pick her up. From the moment Chloe and Malcolm meet I loved them. Chloe was a typical suspicious New Yorker and I liked her right away. Malcolm just had to talk and I was in love with him. lol

Chloe's uncle had rules in his will that are odd but as a result she ends up staying in Scotland for a month instead of her original 2 weeks stay. Malcolm and Chloe become close and ultimately fall in love. The journey to their falling in love was a wonderful read and allowed for alot of sightseeing around Scotland.
Here are some of my favorite passages:
"I saw the slant of sunlight off Lock Fyne on a day when the sun was precious as a drop of gold, and I smelled the heather and felt the rain come down in a cold mist against my face."

"A great deal of blood has been shed on this soil, a great deal of pain inflicted. You can feel it sometimes, whispering in the trees, or crying out amongst the ruins of castles blown apart by the British, or by rival clans. They say the birds still willnae sing on Culloden field. You've no been there, of course, but 'tis a blackness there, as if the ghost still linger."

As Chloe and Malcolm fall in love they spend a powerfully emotional night on the grouds of a castle in a tent. It was a memorable read and the author wrote it just beautifully. I will remember that scene for a long time. I may of even of shed a tear.

The main conflict of the book was that she is from New York and was planning on going back, Malcolm is from Glen Dunn and he would not leave Scotland. There is also a little twist and a secret regarding the will that Chloe did not tell Malcolm about.

One more lovely line that the author wrote that I loved "There is nothing sexier than a man singing to you. Except maybe a man in a kilt singing to you."
I will read this book again!!

2.0 out of 5 stars boring... only made it half way, February 23, 2011
it looks like a lot of folks got this book for a dollar -- kindle special -- and were pleasantly surprised. i paid full price and got too bored to continue half way through.

a woman named chloe goes to scotland where she and a native named malcom instantly get crushes on each other. in the first half of the book, chloe and malcom visit shops and castles. malcom gives breif historical backgrounds for some of the places he takes chloe to, but the book isn't heavy on imagery. malcom has a scottish accent, but i couldn't help reading his lines to myself as a lucky charms leprechaun would.

at least to the middle of the book, there isn't much of a plot, no real friction or strife or anything-- just mild sexual tension. in other words, the plot is so even-keel that there's no reason to keep reading except. well... there's supposed to be a sex scene eventually, but personally, i've lost interest in these flat characters.

typed on kindle. excuse grammar and spelling. thx.
