A '80s Disney Channel Classic,
By
This review is from: Where the Toys Come From (DVD)
This was a popular little 60 min. film that was often shown on The Disney Channel in the 1980s. Made in 1984, it's a whimsical little film about two wind-up toys going to the toy factory to see where toys really come from. The result is part-documentary and part-live action "Toy Story." I never thought I'd ever see this released on DVD, and even though there are no special features, this classic film alone is worth the inexpensive price listed here. I recommend this not only to Disney completists, but also to anyone interested in the manufacturing of toys and fans of the two "Toy Story" films.

Want to know something funny...Last night my daughter(14)asked her oldest brother(20)what his favorite movie was when he was a younger...He said "The Peepers Movie" !!This movie makes you smile the whole way through. To this very day, whenever we see a wind-up toy we think of this movie.

Very Underrated,
By
This review is from: Where the Toys Come From (DVD)
'Where The Toys Come From' is probably the most experimental Disney film ever made, even slightly surreal. It starts out with a pair of intellectual wind up toys Peeper (glasses I think) and
Zoom (a camera) both lovable 'Toy Story' type characters. And they are real, live action wind ups,not animated. The journey starts with their 'owner' Robin and a serious of oddball dancing antique toys at a toy museum.Eventually they end up going to Japan to find out where they are made. From that point on the film becomes something of a documentary of how toys are made.Interesting for kids interested in modern toy making and (if I may say so) alot better done and far less cloying then most modern Disney Channel productions.

Childhood Memories,

All I can figure by the last review is that this person never watched this movie when they were a child. My brother and I were sone of the lucky few (since none of my other friends of the same age remember it) who were completely enthralled by the story of Peepers and Zoom. Yes it's short, yes it's almost a documentary. However, now that this is on DVD I have to own it. I loved this movie as a kid and I always will.

Memories are Tops,

I remember this movie for my boys when they were little in the 80's. We ALWAYS remember this with fondness and fun.
They were very cute characters. I think it is true, seeing it as a child will be a great memory. As home educators the learning part was the BEST part. So happy I can still get this for my younger children and now the grandchildren.

Great delivery time with a nicely packaged movie! Very cheap too! Would recommend! It's a great movie, but hardly anyone knows about it. It's basically the first Toy Story before there was a Toy Story.

Unassuming film with nostalgic value,
This review is from: Where the Toys Come From (DVD)
This hour-long film was produced in 1984 by Ted Thomas, son of the famous Disney animator Frank Thomas. I saw this multiple times in the late 1980s on the Disney Channel where, as a young child, I fell in love with this cute little live-action story. In the film, two wind-up toys, Zoom and Peepers, wonder about their origins, visit a antique toy museum, and then journey to a toy factory in Japan. Viewing this movie today as an adult, I find that it's incredibly cheesy, highly dated, and as a few other reviewers have stated, a little bit boring at times. However, for pure '80s nostalgic value, I must recommend it. It reminds me of the quality programming that was once found on the Disney Channel, and it's fun to see the early work of filmmaker Ted Thomas, who went on to produce the remarkable tribute film "Frank and Ollie" a few years later.
Still, unless you saw this as a child and remember it fondly or unless you simply love toys from the 1980s, the chances are good that you will be very disappointed in this DVD. In today's post-Toy Story world, the special effects are truly laughable. Personally, I think it's great that Disney released this on DVD, even though there are no special features at all.

No better video than this for the younger viewer. Especially if your child likes to watch things over and over. I'm 47 and it's always a treat. So different from the traditional DVD fare- surprisingly simple yet educational as well. Truly, neither you nor your child has ever seen anything like it.
