OTB Finally Brings It: Intensity and Melody!, October 15, 2008

After releasing a debut album several years ago that was lacking in many ways, Olivia the Band showed signs of promise when they released an EP a few years back that appeared to find the band moving in a batter direction. They did not sell out or change their sound; they simply wrote in better lyrics, wrote better songs, and played with more intensity. The result is a stunningly solid and catchy pop-punk record that sounds like old Starting Line (SILYMI era) and Midtown. The difference also is in the production. This band has simply become more confident, and it shows. The only thing lacking is being able to deliver that one killer hook (and boy, do they come close several times). If their next album has similar production, and they are able to deliver a signature tune, they will have a chance to break through.
For now, they are a nice little well-kept secret. If you like pop-punk, buy this. Don't shy away because they are a Christian band. There are plenty of songs here that would appeal to everyone.
