5.0 out of 5 stars yay!, May 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Where Were We (Audio CD)
Not only do The Lucksmiths have some of the best songs, they also are some of the best guys around. T-Shirt Weather become very popular, very quickly, gaining them a lot of air time. It's such a fun, summer song. For some reason the band has very quotable lyrics that get stuck in your head. Stand out tracks: Myopic Friends, I Prefer the 20th Century and Tomorrow vs Yesterday. Even if you can't be bothered buying the album you should at least download those tracks. Very nice, sweet and will put you in a great mood for the rest of the day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where Were We ? ... In Music Heaven !!!, April 25, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Where Were We (Audio CD)
This album is an assortment of recordings from 1999 - 2001, according to the CD sleeve. The guitar, bass, drums & occassionally the vocals on this album most closely resemble The Smiths "Hatful of Hollow" album. I would describe the Lucksmith's sound as a cross between The Smiths and The Trash Can Sinatras (or The Smiths on Prozac). I heard this album for the first time and thought it was pretty good. I thought that there were even a few great songs on it. After several listens, I realized that every single song was brilliant !!!
I own over a thousand CD's and have to say that the Lucksmiths are my absolute favorite band of the moment. I read on the internet somewhere that the Lucksmiths were possibly "the most likeable band on the planet". I would wholeheartedly agree with that comment. The songs on this album are completely addictive. There are fourteen songs in all. If I had to name my four favorite songs, they would be: The Cassingle Revival, T-Shirt Weather, Southernmost and Goodness Gracious. This band is from Australia and has been around for at least ten years. However, they're not that well known in the United States. Please show your support by ordering every Lucksmith's album you can get your hands on. Amazon.com has a few albums available, but there are many, many more out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful, eclectic collection of B-sides, July 21, 2003
By
QueenEE "queen_ee" (Portland, OR United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Where Were We? (Audio CD)
The Lucksmiths amaze once again with this winsome collection of B-sides recorded at various times between their releases of 2001's Why That Doesn't Surprise me and 2003's Naturaliste. Darren Hanlon, another Candle records luminary, contributes beautiful organ work to the opening track, "The Cassingle Revival", a wistful tune about regret, the changing seasons, and the disappearance of the cassette-single. Other highlights include "Mars," with singer Tali White's vocals apparently phoned in from London to Melbourne--adding a ghostly, spaced-out quality; and "I Prefer The Twentieth Century". A must for fans, and a wonderful introduction to the catchy, infectious pop of The Lucksmiths for newcomers. Not a miss on this one.
