Each year I share with my clients and friends a book that I believe will provoke their thinking in some way.

Shortly after Thanksgiving last year I found myself in a Starbucks Café with a steaming Americano on my table and seated next to a display of dark chocolate and merchandise. I had a 30-minute wait till my appointment arrived, so I began to page through the book titled, "5." It's a tool for planning your life five years out, filled with thought-provoking activities. Yet even when I ignored the exercises, I decided, it's a good, fun read!

I found the layout stimulating, the questions quite provocative, and the value high. So high, in fact, that I talked a Starbucks manager into ordering me a full case of these (50) for exclusive distribution to my client base.

They loved the book! I received dozens of notes from clients who dug into the exercises and were having a wonderful time discovering their future. A few confessed they had no energy to plan the future, but when they started reading the book they felt so inspired by the layout and the powerful questions that they found themselves engaged despite them selves.

I also had a lot of requests re: Where can I get a copy? Until very recently (end of month Jan 09) the book was not available except thru Starbucks, and they were sold out. I'm thrilled it's now available thru AZN.

My wife and I used two copies of this book to do our annual Planning Retreat, where we set aside an entire day to review the past year and then look ahead to the next. This book, 5, challenged us to look even further ahead.

It's not a breakthrough book, and it's filled with a lot of quotes and readings that self-improvement junkies will have already seen before. But the presentation is so much fun; and the arrangement of activities keeps one moving thru the planning/vision process.

Bottom line, it's a pretty joyful planning tool. I highly recommend this for those who get stuck in planning their life, and especially those who appreciate visual presentation.

What a great book! I love the fact that it is "user friendly" and an easy read. The content of the book is excellent and it really got me thinking about what I want to focus on and how much can be accomplished over the next five years.

It's amazing to think that Julia Child went from cooking school to an Emmy winning TV chef in only four years. And that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos went from a 500 square foot apartment at age 30 to a net worth of $10 billion in just five years. It made me realize just how much can be accomplished in such a short span of time!

One of the things that I found particularly helpful was breaking out the various areas of my life into discrete categories, what he calls the "Wheel of Life" (e.g., family, career, health, travel relationships, etc.). Thinking about what I want to accomplish in each of these areas helped me formalize some thoughts that had just been floating around in my head.

Another part of the book that I found inspiring was the section titled, "Do It Now!" It really pushed me to start finding the time to really go after the things I want to do, but have procrastinated about. In the same way, the thought that you should not "go" through life, but instead "grow" through life was perfect, as it inspired me to try new things like reading the classics and breaking some bad habits that have bothered me for years.

If you want to really make the next five years of your life something you can enjoy and be proud of, do yourself a favor and read "Five". For those of you who like setting goals but don't always know how to go about achieving them, I recommend reading "Goal! Your 30 Day game Plan for Business & Career Success" Goal!: Your 30-Day Game Plan for Business and Career Success, since it helps you create a specific plan to achieve important goals.

This is a great book! I have bought it for myself, my husband and brother. It is full of great examples and inspiration for setting goals and living your life with purpose.

If you are looking for a straight foward, no nonsence book to introduce the power of goal setting to people in your life, this is $10.00 very well spent. The return on investment for this book is huge.

Well Done!

It starts off great... and then it tapers off toward the end. But it's filled with inspirational quotes and pretty good exercises. It's easy to go through. If the writer were to come out with a new revision, I'd advise him to revise the last few chapters.

In 5 years, I'll write a review to let you know whether this worked. But thus far; I'm inspired to make a difference in this world.

I think this book will provide the nudge I need to a pursue a second career. I will use it as a workbook, and I hope to uncover hidden interests that will get me started down a new path. Before now my ideas have been random and floating around in my imagination. I think this book will help me explore and focus on the best of them. I like the layout of the book.

everyone should have this book! young or older.. it REALLY inspires you to think, find yourself...dream.. remember...go do it.
for those of us who lost or forgot the dreams along the way.... or to share with those who are starting out into the real world, kinda a Dr.Suess for grown ups. NEVER stop sharing.

This book was purchased for me by a previous boss and mentor (though I don't think he realized he was my mentor or made an impact, he did!). The night I received the book I read it begining to end and frequently used parts during pre-sort meetings and currently a weekly newsletter. I have purchased this book now for each and every associate that shows leadership potential. This would make an excellent gift for those graduates, someone heading towards an occupation change or for you on your coffee table!

This book is very insightful and if your an organized person like me, then it is the perfect book for you. You get to create goals and adventures, its almost like a journal with quotes. It helps you DO. I am very pleased with my purchase!

Inspiring and worth every bit of your time. Amazing how incredible this lifetime can be when we align with the greatness of our lifetimes.
