Book Description

September 23, 1997
Is there anyone who does not long for signs of God's loving presence, some token of guidance and protection? In Where Wonders Prevail, New York Times bestselling author Joan Wester Anderson gathers dozens of true stories that tell of tender coincidences, inspirational healings, and safe passages through the very heart of trouble and danger.

There's the missionary priest in the Nicaraguan jungle whose life is saved by a prayer from friends in Michigan. Teenaged best friends Patty and Joni harbor a closeness even death can not erase. And a lonely Seattle man finds his life transformed by a mysterious little messenger. In Anderson's moving narrative, we find many such glimpses of heaven--reminding us that God is always near, every step of our way.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Although Anderson's (Where Angels Walk, Ballantine, 1992) readers and the widespread readership of angel books in general will provide an audience for this book about the miraculous intervention of angels in human affairs, this is a less substantive treatment of the subject than Sophy Burnham's Book of Angels (Ballantine, 1990). Anderson's anecdotal accounts also lack the credibility of Burnham's Angel Letters (Ballantine, 1991) because the narrative and dialog provide a sense of embellished drama rather than a forum for those involved to share their own sense of these sacred events. A marginal purchase.

From the Publisher

I have worked with Joan Wester Anderson for almost 5 years and this title is probably one of my favorites. In it she moves beyond the stories of angels that she told in Where Angels Walk and beyond the stories of miracles that she told in Where Miracles Happen and shares rich tales of remarkable dreams, unusual changes in nature and visions of life in the hereafter. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

More About the Author

I started writing when we bought a handyman-special house that didn't come with a handyman. We had four sons at that point (a daughter finally arrived a year after we moved) so I started magazine freelance-writing. Collected a lot of rejection slips but I also learned a lot about the industry. I was completely self-taught and have never taken a journalism course.

By lurches and mistakes, I added a second income to the family while staying at home. A friend and I, on a lark, did a book on household humor together, and we found a publisher right away. The first book led to a second, but then my co-writer went off to a real job at a university. I continued at home with the magazine articles, an occasional book (the books never sold very well) and a speaking sideline that got me out of the house occasionally.

In 1992, as I made plans to finish my career in writing, I did one last book, Where Angels Walk, which became a New York Times best seller, and is still on bookshelves and published in at least 18 languages lo! these past almost-20 years. I never did stop writing, and have just completed #8 in my angel/miracles series. I also have returned to my roots---with a humorous book on family life, Moms Go Where Angels Fear to Tread.

I'm very grateful to God for allowing me to do this kind of work. My father once said that a person who loves her job will never work a day in her life, and that is me. I hope you are a new reader. Please check my website (and many new angel stories) at http://joanwanderson.com.

This is the third book of Ms. Anderson's that I have read and am once again amazed and inspired. Her stories are stories of beauty, faith and love and each and every one cannot help but fill one with faith and hope.

"For nothing is impossible with God." We are reminded once again, the love that God has for us and we need only ask and we shall receive.

My favorite story was Triumph In The Sky, the story of a baby's journey to receive a liver transplant and the pilot who aided him on his journey.

Miracles do happen. As Joan says, "His light is eternal. His love prevails."

All the stories are beautiful and I recommend this book highly. You will be changed - you will be left thinking and you will be crying and smiling and at peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly inspirational!, July 1, 1997

This review is from: Where Wonders Prevail (Hardcover)
This book helped remind me that miracles do happen. I am a slow reader and do not read alot of books, but I really enjoyed this book because it consisted of easy to read short stories about true inspirational events in regular people's lives. Small miracles that happen when sometimes we first don't realize it. When you are having a bad day or a rough go of things, reading one of these stories helps to put life back into perspective. I think I would like to read Joan's other books as well
