4.0 out of 5 stars A fun educational game? Cool, July 6, 2006

This review is from: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? (Video Game)
There have been several versions of the Carmen Sandiego games over the years, and the super nintendo one is a direct port of the dos-based PC original. This is really a classic as far as educational video games go. Wacky crimes have been committed around the globe, and you have to travel from place to place, sorting out clues from witnesses and informants to stay on the crook's trail. You'll also have to gather information about the crook to obtain a warrant so you can properly arrest them. Eventually, you'll nab Carmen Sandiego.

This game has real nostalgia for anyone who sat in a classroom in the 80s/90s and played Carmen Sandiego on their Apple II computers. Playing it on a super nintendo is easier than tracking down a computer with a floppy drive, though playing on a large tv screen is a slightly different experience. The graphics are more colorful than the old vga dos ports, and the little bad guy animations are more fluid. Other than that, it's pretty much the same experience.

The only downside now is that the game isn't very hard. Besides the fact that we're older and more knowledgeable about the world, and that we have ready access to the internet for research, a lot of the clues tend to repeat. You'll know pretty soon which country has a "blue and white flag," or where to go to see postage stamps made. The game does get a little stale when you automatically know all the answers, though to its credit you'll keep coming back for another case until you nab Carmen.

A nice educational classic, good fun for anyone who has a super nintendo and wants to relive old times.
