5.0 out of 5 stars I got it for my birthday.
My daughter and I play a lot of games together on the computer and the Carmen Sandiego games are among the best. 1.0 out of 5 stars Carmen ripoff
I was under the impression that I had ordered Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego--the original version. What I got was a terrible version. My son and I played it for 5 minutes thinking it was the version we had rented from the library but it wasn't--it was horrible--graphics-wise and content. I can't tell you how disappointed I was!

My daughter and I play a lot of games together on the computer and the Carmen Sandiego games are among the best. We enjoy the 360 degree view of the places you visit and hearing the educational -but entertaining- things the Good Guides have to tell about each location. This version includes a translation device as part of the game so you can count, say "Good Morning" and ask about a woman in red in a variety of languages by the time you have captured all of Carmen's cohorts. And don't forget the watch. Even the Chief wears one.

Make sure you check the hardware requirements. I was really excited to find this program. I ordered it and when we installed it wouldn't work because our systems were too new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carmen has made my child a geography whiz!, April 4, 2001
This review is from: Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
I have a 10 year old daughter who I have seen spend, literally, multiple hours on our PC engaged in what I call "virtual globe- trotting" in an effort to find Carmen and her partners in crime.

Players use the Digiketch to piece together a composite image of the suspect as they unlock clues describing his/her appearance.(Once you get a complete image, you can issue an arrest warrant!)

There is a World Wiz Database that helps players learn more about the countries that the suspect may have visited. This game introduces foreign phrases, international travel, and problem solving skills in a way that no other medium could.

I highly recommend this game as a means by which a child's horizons can be greatly broadened.

This game is a little frustrating for any child who cannot yet associate a continent with the following clues: kroner, Ho Chi Minh trail, outback, Sahara. I had to help out more than either of us would have liked. On the other hand, it's fun, so she is motivated to try. And she is learning a lot!

This is a good game that will teach children about world geography but younger children may get frustrated with this game. It is really geared toward pre-teens and you have to listen closely to the clues in order to determine where is the world is Carmen. This game will work with Windows XP Home Edition but you have to run it in compatibility mode.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Review For Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?, April 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
This is my review: This is a review for Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? Performs on Windows and Macintosh. Carmen Sandiego's at it again! Now she's going after treasures from around the world, faster than you can say, "Stop!" You're now an agent for The ACME Detective Agency. Your job is to track Carmen Sandiego's cohorts around the globe, using the Get-A-Clue-Case Pad. This device enables you to: Question tourists, access the World Wiz DataBase, travel around the world, create a profile of your thief, and contact The Chief. First, you must install the program. In the user's manual, you will find detailed instructions on how to do this, on either Macintosh, or Windows. After you have successfully installed the wonderful game, start it. First, enter your name. Then, The Chief will contact you, and give you the scoop on working for ACME, and how to catch a thief, in a nutshell. Then, you can start your first case. You will Fly By Night Travel to your destination. There are 50 countries where the thief could have gone. You are going to one of them. When you arrive, you should start off by questioning tourists. Using your gadgetry, ask them a question, either about where the crook went next, or what the suspect looks like. They will reply. Their text will come up on the screen. To record this on your yellow note pad, just drag their text onto the note pad. It will automatically be recorded. Pick up any scraps of paper, or suspicious items that are lying around. These are clues to what your suspect looks like. Each clue points to a certain trait. Enter this trait in the Digisketch function. When you have all the traits, you can obtain a warrant. Go to your next place, by clicking on the globe icon. You will have several choices. Pick the one that every location clue that you've recieved points to. If you need to navigate, use the arrows next to the picture of the world, to turn the picture. Find the country. Put the cursor on each red dot, and the country that that is will be highlighted. When you find yours, start navigating. When you have an answer, click on either the name of the country, or the country's red dot. Be sure it's the right country! You will soon advance through the ranks. From Rookie, all the way up to Super Sleuth! You must catch 39 crooks, before you can even try to catch Carmen. As you move up in rank, the cases become longer, and more difficult. Use any reference that you need. It's fun to view every part of the country. You can view the full 350 degrees, if you like. Each picture of each country is beautifully painted, with elaborate details. If you really like the picture, or just want to know where you are, take a look at your map, in the right-hand corner. It will display the country, and tell you what city you're in, and where the city is in the country. Enjoy each scene, and the music from the country. Have fun with the game, and Good Luck! I hope that you liked my review, and maybe even considered buying the product!

I bought this thinking it was the Carmen Sandiego from the mid-nineties, which is what the product photos show. The actual game for sale is the 2001 "Treasures of Knowledge," which is a great game, just not what we were looking for. The product description is correct, but the photos should be fixed to avoid future confusion.
