It's hard to pick a favorite, but...,

I had heard tracks from Green Mind first, but Where You Been was the first DJ album I really absorbed and loved. I mean...you know ten seconds in it's gonna rock. Some of the songs are rather chill though. "Out There" is a great opener, and I might like "Start Choppin'" even more. I'm sure some fans of the early stuff don't dig this album as much, but now that DJ is active again, this could really be considered the mid-years. Another all-time fave of mine is "Goin' Home". You'll easily enjoy this album if you like Without A Sound, Green Mind or Hand It Over. I have the vinyl. It's almost frame-worthy.

J is about as free and creative a guitarist as you could want to hear. I'm glad he's currently getting very active again. I wish J would do an album of all hard-rockers like Out There, which is explosive !!!

This album is good, not as good as other dinosaur jrs albums, but has many great songs. To me Dinosaur Jr is one of the greatest rock bands, they naver sold out to "commercial stuff' they stay true to their music and keep the same pace everytime. I love it

Better than with the band?,

I like this album as much as - or better than - the first three (with Lou and Murph), with the possible exception of "You're Living All Over Me." The raw sound of the first two albums has its merits and I love those ("Bug" not so much), but I also appreciate the production quality of "Where You Been."Moreover, a lot of the songs J played acoustically in "Martin & Me" come from this album- "What Else is New," Keeblin'," "Get Me," and "Drawerings" (Kurt Fedora- best acoustic solo ever!) are awesome jams on that album and I dig the originals found here. I don't find a lot of deep meaning in the lyrics, but the way they're delivered is unique, and the guitar is just perfect. Great album, definitely J's best and maybe Dino Jr's best. Call me heretic! |
