Where's My Hug?,
This review is from: Where's My Hug? (Hardcover)
First of all, I really like the illustrations in this book and they fit the story wonderfully! My only issue was that a few times some of the characters looked mad, and I wasn't sure if they were supposed to or not ...
This story is about a little boy who doesn't want his mom to hug him in front of all his school friends because it's embarrassing. But, at the end of a trying day he wants his hug but - uh-oh, Mom already gave the hug away to Dad! What ensues is the little boy trying to track down his hug that's been passed from Dad to the Cat, to a witch and then a wizard and so forth. I love the idea, and the illustrations of the little boy's room at the end do tie it all together, but I think the idea of a hug "always being there" could have been a little better done. It just felt a little bit like two different stories with all the fantasy stuff suddenly thrown in. But, I still think it was really cute and a sweet story that I would recommend!

Our boys 3 and 7 love to listen to this book. The watercolor illustrations are wonderful and the repetitive, simple, sweet storyline is just right for bed time. This is one of our favorite books to give as a gift- for girls and boys. It has all you need for a good read- pictures, a cat, a princess, a dragon......

Jake rejects a hug from his mother when she drops him off at school, "Mom!' said Jake. `I don't want a hug. Everyone will think I'm a baby" At the end of a hard school day, he asks his mother for her hug but she tells him that she instead gave the hug to his father. Jake asks his dad, "Where's my hug?" His dad tells him that he gave the hug to the cat and the cat responds that she gave the hug to a witch in exchange for a "tasty fish". The hug keeps being passed on: Who ends up with the hug, and does Jake get it back? This is a cute cumulative patterned story that should appeal to K-3rd grades. The watercolor illustrations are colorful and full of expressive and humorous details. This story with its refrain, "Where's my hug?" could be fun to read-aloud; although, the illustrations probably are best suited for viewing by a small group, or one-on-one.
