An oversized picture book with hoards of people milling around on each pageamidst this humanity readers must try to spot Waldo, identifiable by his clothing and hiking paraphernalia, in a game of concentration. It's difficult to find him in the middle of a crowd because he does not stick out head and shoulders above the teeming masses of pedestrians, beach-goers or vacationers. He's hiking his way across the world, and sees mermaids in canals, cows escaping from train cars, a helicopter chopping down flagpoles, a mummy's baby in a museum, a capsized desert island, a hat-eating giraffe and a glove attacking a man; he tells all in postcards, considerately short and friendly. Toward the end, Waldo has lost everything but his hat, and readers are expected to find those objects, too, in this amusing game of concentration amidst a sea of distractions. Waldo cuts through a maze of people and participates in numerous activities, but, unlike readers, seems to know where he is going. The pictures are astonishing in variety, detail and humor, and the pages are filled with so many people that readers will marvel at the artist's patience. All ages.

I live outside the USA and have many families who visit in our home. The Where's Waldo books have been the perfect thing to give to restless children. They quickly take up the challenge of finding that little man! For some, it is their first exposure to books for fun or pleasure. I am ready to order my second set!

I love Waldo books. It really helps teach my godson focus and let's us spend some time together. With everything there is on each page to look at, I can spend an hour with him easy and he doesn't even notice that he went without a video game or the tv for an hour (or more)! Also, we went to our favorite zoo the other day and he notices so much more. We have 4 of the six Waldo books. He's already put book 5 on his wish list.

I just spent approximately 30 minutes working my way through this book, finding Waldo in each of his 12 locations. This is an example of good clean fun and an excellent check of your visual acuity and spatial sense. I also noticed that in the later scenes, Waldo starts to lose some of his possessions. In the last scene, he no longer has his cap, cane, cup and other tools. It has been proven in several different ways that the mind is like any other physical muscle, if it is challenged, it stays strong. Given those conditions, the searches needed to find Waldo that are in this book qualify as exercises to sharpen your brain.
