Yes, I agree with Mr. Jensens review. This one is a mixture. Johnny & Edgar do a duet on 'Please Come Home For Christmas', and strangely enough, Bon Jovi also did the same song almost simultaneously and released it as a single at the end of that same year. Of course, Johnny & Edgar Winter had been doing this song together probably since they were 10 yrs old since there are earlier versions available of them singing it. Definitely a nod in the direction of Charles Brown. Johnnys version of T. Bone Walkers "Hard Way' is barnstorming.
There are some points where Johnny appears to be going through the motions, but then he makes up for it with the dynamic slow blues 'You keep sayin'that you are leavin''- what a gem! The lyrics are so true to life and humourous.. the guitar work is blistering.
'Check out her mama' is another high point. You wouldn't be disappointed when buying this one and it's one of the last occasions where you hear JW at full throttle*. It was almost a continuation of Johnnys former c.d. 'Let Me In', and he did really well in keeping the same feel.
**Johnnys next CD would be years later " Live In New York" on which he sounds heavily medicated and a shadow of his former self.

If you like blues,boogie-woogie,and rock-n-roll buy this CD. I've had it for 5 years and still listen to it all the time in my car. This is Johnny at his best. It has a nice mix of different types of music,all played to perfection by the master. Edgar joins in on "Please Come Home for Christmas". Not a bad song on this one.

It's hard to think of any two other JW releases as full & rich as this one. Acoustic piece? yup, and it's a goody. Rock-out raves? Check. Swampy slide? Oh yeah, and it gets better each listen. Xmas song? Check ... -- what? Oh yes, my friend; Johnny not only includes a seasonal favorite, but his brother joins to make it a truly classic performance. While he was at it, Edgar added some touches to a couple other pieces as well, but "Please Come Home For Christmas" is the obvious highlight.

Not that this release didn't have any without him: "Boogie Real Low" has the band stretching out behind Johnny's ferocious slide, which he whips out again for the faster-than-fast "You Must Have a Twin". Billy Branch adds some much-needed harmonica here and there, but the real star of this album is the man it should be: Johnny himself, whose playing sounds somehow deeper than ever before. It's not surprising that Johnny didn't make another record for several years after this; there just may not have been much left to say :)

This is an excellent album. It really could have been packaged as a double album along with the album, Let Me In. Both have the same jazzier backup band. Note the upright bass on the cover of the CD. Johnny really cranks out some superb guitar as always.

Classic Johnny Winter at the top of his craft. A must-have if your into Texas Guitar Boogie ala Billy Gibbons, SRV, & Albert King. Several notable tunes on this album including Check Out Her Momma, Blue Christmas, & Boogie Real Low. But really, there's not a throw away tune here. Tight band, Great guitar riffs.

They call him Johnny Guitar and he will show your ears why! While a little heavy at times this disc rocks in unrelenting and unforgiving fasion. Not heavy metal like either. A house rockin' blues album. Two cuts are Johnny acustic/steel guitar, uncluttered and my personal favorites, but we like to rock too.

What can you say about John Dawson Winter that hasn't already been said repeatedly? Maybe "Yeaaaaaaaaaah Johnny!" The unquestionable King of Blues Rock will reign long after his shade has passed from among us. His driving clean pickin' and playin' are simply the best bar none.

Since late 60's early 70's has there been such a powerful J.W. performance. An underrated recording. It burns right through space to rip flesh and sound. It really moves. A must for Blues Lovers...

Outstanding disc full of blues and rockin' music. Perfect CD for driving. This will quickly get your heart pounding and your foot stomping. Wonderful mix of tunes and the usual awesome guitar playing of Johnny. Not a bad tune on the CD.

They don't call him "Johnny Guitar" for nothing. Really tasty guitar work, really nicely recorded. I also recommend "Nothing But the Blues", but this might be an even better disk.
