Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

This mini-album is comprised of six songs that were originally part of a full-length work recorded in 2002 for RCA, just as the label entered a merger and cut a large part of their roster, including David Mead. Rescued from limbo, these songs are glorious pop gems, carefully constructed from their writing on through to production and arrangements. Mead’s melodic sensibilities and clear, unaffected voice bring to mind Crowded House and Neil Finn . The opening title track has a near-orchestral lushness, but it's all made out of guitars, keyboards, drums, and vocals. He subsequently scaled down with the more intimate Indiana in 2004, but this is a regal delight from beginning to end, twenty-two and a half minutes of pure and romantic pop glory. --David Greenberger

5.0 out of 5 stars Pop music for people who have given up on chart music, September 3, 2005
By
This review is from: Wherever You Are (Audio CD)
With a more lush production than Indiana, this CD recalls the feel of the "Mine and Yours" album and to my ears benefits from it. Although short at six tracks, quality is never an issue and after a couple of spins you'll find yourself waking with the melody line from "only a dream" or the title track running through your brain. This is pop music in a classic sense, for people who have given up on chart music and as with all of Mr Meads' albums makes you wonder how mainstream acceptance can be far away.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Mead maintains high standards, June 28, 2005
This review is from: Wherever You Are (Audio CD)
Stylistically, this is somewhere between "Mine and Yours" and "Indiana", with typically crafted songs, sensitive arrangements and superb singing. Singer/songwriters don't come any better thasn David Mead and he's long overdue a lot more success. This CD is especially worth having since it's so cheap! There's lot's more info about him including guitar tabs etc at www.dreamawaythemiles.com and www.mineandyours.com, as well as his official site www.davidmead.com.

2.0 out of 5 stars Urrgh, August 28, 2005
This review is from: Wherever You Are (Audio CD)
Disappointed, that's my first reaction. As an avid David Mead fan.. and owner of his entire canon of works... as I marched around one of my usual music/retail stores desperately trying to find something worthy the other night... I saw the new Mead album and without even thinking, looking or sampling ran to the register, then to my car to load the CD. I kept listening, waiting for the sounds that would seem as good or better than his last CD, Indiana. And then the music stopped after 6 songs... and I was like, "WHAT!?" Sorry. Disappointment was all I mostly felt... and kinda pissed. I had no idea it was a "mini album." Guess I have to give it a thorough listen again. I'm sure it has some redeeming value. But Indiana-or-better it ain't, and on top of it, it's short too! Feh!! Come on David, let's go forward and stop staring at the rear-view mirror. Your music is way too vibrant to even consider retrospectives yet!!!
