I love Jay Robb's protein powders. As cheesy as he seems on the packaging, I can assure you these are high quality, consistent products. I have tried both the chocolate & vanilla flavors, and while I like the chocolate better, both are great.

I make the Jamocha shake every morning for breakfast that is in the Jorge Cruise Belly Fat Cure book (page 95)The Belly Fat Cure: Discover the New Carb Swap System and Lose 4 to 9 lbs. Every Week. I use a shot of whipped cream instead of the heavy cream since I usually have that on hand for my son's pancakes. It's great. I feel like I am really drinking the Arby's jamocha shake.

I like that Jay Robb uses stevia to sweeten the powder and not the Splenda we see everywhere.

Great taste, good blending. Love this product.

I have tried most every whey protein available on Amazon and I really thought I had found the best option with the Jay Robb protein, since it is delicious, easily mixed, and also APPEARED to come from grass fed rbgh free cows (per the Amazon description: "Only cold-processed cross-flow microfiltered whey protein isolate is used as the protein source and this material comes from farm-raised, pasture-grazed, grass-fed cows not treated with the synthetic bovine growth hormone rBGH.")

Unfortunately I was casually reading the back of the bag one day after a couple reorders, and I read the following:
"Because rBGH-free whey is primarily obtained from small farms throughout the world, there is only a limited supply. The Jay Robb Corporation secures large quantities abroad each year to meet our growing needs; however, there are times when the world supply runs short. During these periods, we may choose to procure the highest quality domestic whey protein in conjunction with rBGH-free raw materials to produce our world-class whey protein."

Or, in short, the Amazon description about happy cows producing this whey is a sham. Now, if it really was that Jay Robb Corporation only used the non-rBGH-free stuff on rare occasions in small amounts it wouldn't be a huge deal, but the above statement is CLEARLY carefully written to mislead, as are all of the markings on the package which at some point changed from "Made from rBGH-free whey protein!" to "Made WITH rBGH-free whey protein!" without my noticing. This seems more like a corporation looking to squeeze some extra profit out by misleading customers and thus there is probably only as much rBGH-free protein as their lawyers thought constituted "with".

Really disappointing. At this point its a matter of principle. Bye, Jay Robb.

I thank the reviewer who posted about the "weasel" factor in the Jay Robb label. Stupid me, I saw rBGH-free on the cover and ignored the asterisks. But there is a long disclaimer how they might add regular milk with hormones or whatever if there is a shortage globally or from the farms they use, etc. That to me does seem like a " how do we keep the profit up, oh, let's add cheap milk" sort of loophole. I'd rather they commit to top quality milk, and if there's a shortage, there's a shortage, so you put out less product. Jay Robb should man up and be ethical here. Or don't put that promise on the label at all. Just leave it be. It's slightly deceptive in that you see the front saying rBGH-free and just assume that's that. Maybe a big SOMETIMES r-BGH-free with the sometimes in bold letters.

Anyway, the taste: This one's good. I've tried the tropical one, the orange creamiscle type one, the chocolate and the vanilla as well. Some have awful aftertastes or soapy tastes. Even the gal at GNC asked me if I could stomach the taste. I said, well, the pineapple/coconut one is nice with coconut milk to mask the weird taste. The vanilla is nearly unsalvageable. The creamsicle, meh. The chocolate, meh. But the strawberry is benign.

I don't expect fabulous "I'm gonna die it's so good" flavor from my whey protein. I want it to be good quality, ideally grass-fed cows without all the icky stuff, and not sweetened with sugar/HFCS/etc. Lower cal and lower carb would be nice, too, I just want good, solid whey protein and not a lot of toxic goop in there.

I have pretty much decided I'm only buying whey from providers who promise grass-fed cowmilk with no hormones/etc.

Not only is this the best tasting natural whey, but it is also from grass-fed, non-rgbh/hormone cows. I used to use Nutrition Designer whey, but that is a mixture of whey concentrate plus isolate. Designer Protein uses ion exchange to isolate their whey, which is not as good. (I would put links to explain this but Amazon would remove them.) Furthermore, Next Nutrition Designer Whey uses sucralose and acesulfame k as sweeteners, which are unnatural, man-made chemicals I'd rather not ingest.

Jay Robb mixes well when I use a shaker cup, and certainly mixes well when I use a blender. Dreamsicle is really good - mixed with OJ it tastes like an Orange Julius. In milk, reminds me a little of Fruit Loops. I've also tried the strawberry, which reminds me of the Nestle's strawberry we used to drink as children. I think vanilla is my favorite, though. The Pina Colada is pretty good, too.

If I had to buy some whey and I could not get Jay Robb, I guess I'd go with BioChem. Their powders are created using the same type of technology, taste almost as good and are cheaper. They do have 4 grams of sugar, whereas Jay Robb has none. This is good and bad -- good because BioChem can use less Stevia for a sweetener, and bad because I don't want extra sugar. I don't mind stevia in small quantities - it is safe, natural and does the job, but you can detect it if you are a sensitive taster. I am used to it, though, and it is not very detectable in most of the Jay Robb powders.

The only downside of this brand of whey is that it is very expensive. There are some places online that discount it -- even some merchants here on Amazon, but many do use retail pricing.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT 2 lbs. It is only 24 ounces. This merchant has NOT updated their information. They used to be packaged in 2 lbs, but not anymore. I ordered this from them and sure enough, it was not 2 lbs.
