Whey is a natural, premium quality protein, derived from cow's milk (a source hign in amino acids). Whey is a by-product of the manufacture of cheese. When cheese is produced from milk, a liquid remains. That liquid is whey. From there whey can be filtered and processed to remove unwanted ingredients such as lactose. The remaining whey is processed to various concentrations depending on application and budget. Honeyville's 80 percent Whey Concentrate contains 80 percent protein, minimum. It is an excellent source of protein. For a more economical protein, try our whey concentrate 34 percent.

This item arrived at my door about three days after I ordered it. The product is of excellent quality. The outer bag appears to be a very robust fiber reinforced paper, and arrived in a cardboard box completely intact and without any exterior damage to the bag. The powder concentrate is contained inside a separate plastic bag. No need to worry about making a mess scooping the powder out of the bag - the plastic inner bladder rolls up nicely, then the paper outer bag can be folded down over the top and clipped closed for storage. Looks to be fairly resistant to short-term atmospheric moisture with this configuration. Bring your own scoop though, because it doesn't (nor should it) come with one.

Of all of the different protein powders I have tried, this one is by far the easiest to mix with water or milk. It doesn't even require a power blender, even at high concentrations (250g/L). Just some spirited shaking. And this is not the top end of solubility. There's no doubt you can go much higher, especially if you use a blender.

Mixed with water, it doesn't have any real discernible flavor. I mix mine with different flavorings for a high quality protein drink to supplement my exercise program. For you body builders, this product is a great value over buying smaller amounts in plastic tubs, if you don't mind dealing with a 44 lb bag.

The product I received was manufactured by Hilmar Ingredients and is their '8010' product. It arrived in a 20kg bag (or a little over 44 lbs in the King Henry system).

This is a great item to use as the base protein if you want to tinker with the protein value in your own shakes.

I haven't used it in cooking, but it looks like it would be easy to mix with anything water based, since solubility is really high.
