About the Author

Caroline was a member of the Swingettes, an all girl band during World War II, where she played drums and trumpet. The group played in every state in the union, primarily entertaining our servicemen. The girls disbanded in 1946, and Caroline returned to Michigan to marry Kenneth Weage, a soldier she met in 1941 during one of the Swingettes' performances. In 1961, Caroline became a charter member of the Plymouth Community Band. She has spent forty years she is quick to point out this is half of her life teaching music, writing books, and playing trumpet and drums. She organized her own jazz band in 1990, called The Mello-Aires. Caroline plays jazz drums with the three young men in her bandentertaining at community affairs and for non-profit functions. She has recently become involved in "Christian Rock" with a local church. "Do select an instrument you like and will continue to like as you grow," Mrs. Weage advises children. "There is so much pleasure and pride in performing, even when you reach the age of eighty and ninety."
