5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Wakefield has defintely changed. The first album was pure highschool garage band going pop-punk. It was very good though. This time, they have matured and sound incredible.

3.0 out of 5 stars What happened to wakefield?????
I wanted to rate this cd 2 and half stars, but there is no option for it. Ill admitt i fell for Wakefield's first album even though it sounded like every other pop-punk band in existence at the time. What did me in was seeing them open for the All-American Rejects, for me there is no substitute for a great live show. After heavy rotation in my cd collection i couldnt wait...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, June 16, 2005
This review is from: Which Side Are You on (Audio CD)
Wakefield has defintely changed. The first album was pure highschool garage band going pop-punk. It was very good though. This time, they have matured and sound incredible.

Luckily for me, first impressions don't last. When I first listened to the CD, my expectation was for another "American Made" which had Simple Plan/Good Charlotte-like choruses. I wasn't as impressed as I hade hoped for a while, then got to Picture Frame and I loved the rest of the songs. After listening to the CD again, while trying to forget their first album, I realized how amazing it is.

The guitars on New Game are unbelievable. They're also really good on Without You, Take Off, and Asleep on Broken Teeth. I think the best song though is After School Special. The only downside I could find was Clean 1145 and the hidden track. I guess they were just weird experiments in song types.

If you like rock in general at all, get Wakefield (both cds).

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm On Wakefield's Side, September 16, 2005

I have to be honest. I'm a little disappointed... in the fact that it took me so long to hear these guys. Of all the big bands out there, Wakefield runs the show in my MP3 player these days. The variety in the album is enticing because the band really expresses their love for the music, showcasing their talent with different styles in between the rock. I'm giving the album a 5-star rating because there isn't a song I don't like and I can't keep it off the playlist. The band took a risk in playing with new sounds on this album, and that risk paid off. Now it's your turn to reap the benefits and enjoy some good music.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING.....6 stars if possible!!!!, June 20, 2005
This review is from: Which Side Are You on (Audio CD)
I would give this CD 6 stars if I could. I love this song, and they will probably be my new obsession for a bit. Until Goldfrapp comes out with their new album!

Anyway.

This CD rocks. It's spunky, has awesome vocals. The harmonies blow me away and the way they mix the guitars and everything together is breathtaking!

Best song on the CD for me?

Has to be a tie between "Picture Frame" and "Quietly Complaining".

Both songs feature a great buildup to the chorus, and I just found myself singing my heart out in the middle of the street to both of these songs, while listening to them one after another. "Picture Frame" sent chills up and down my spine while I listened to it the first time. It was so beautiful and just plain AWESOME!

I don't get this excited over many CDs, but yes yes yes. This group has changed a LOT since their first CD. Gone are the grungy, edgy guitars and welcome to one of the finest Pop-Rock groups you'll find today!

If you like (old) Finch, Yellowcard or Something Corporate, these guys will fit right into your repetoire of music, and, in my opinion, surpass them all. I'm not saying they sound LIKE them, they have their own sound, their own style, everything. Highly reccommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Such a good band gone bad..., July 31, 2007
This review is from: Which Side Are You on (Audio CD)
I agree with the others out there who loved Wakefield's first album, "American Made". I think it was very well done and though it isn't anything spectacular or a new sound they were very genuine and just sounded like they loved what they did. Their music was infectious and they had a great sound. I too was excited to get part two of this with "Which Side Are You On" but was sorely dissappointed in the album. I barely made it through it once because its so bland. Don't get me wrong, I still love Wakefield, but I hope that they get their old sound back. If you love Wakefield, you may be dissappointed by this, but choose as you will, just be careful not to pot too much hope in this album.

3.0 out of 5 stars What happened to wakefield?????, April 13, 2006
This review is from: Which Side Are You on (Audio CD)
I wanted to rate this cd 2 and half stars, but there is no option for it. Ill admitt i fell for Wakefield's first album even though it sounded like every other pop-punk band in existence at the time. What did me in was seeing them open for the All-American Rejects, for me there is no substitute for a great live show. After heavy rotation in my cd collection i couldnt wait to see what wakefield had in store for an encore, i was very disappointed. there are only brief hints of the Wakefield of old, this cd is like listening to a whole new band. Wakefield lost all of its pep, hooks, and it seems their heart when making "Which Side are you On." It seems to me that the song "Sell Out" off the last album was not just a fun and catchy song, but a prelude to what would soon become Wakefield's way of life. If you are a fan of Wakefield, buy this disc at your own risk, I did and am very disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice. Just 'nice' or more?, February 22, 2006
This review is from: Which Side Are You on (Audio CD)
First of all dont expect anything extraordinary from this CD. This is not a masterpiece but these guys really have their own touch!
If you like bands like SR-71, Lit, Yellowcard, New Found Glory, The All-American Rejects and this type of music you will like this cd either. Mix these pop-alternative-punk-rock bands in one and you'll get Wakefield but with bit of their own style. Wakefield use much variety on this cd so you can even hear some 'Lostprophets style' vocals here as well as some emo elements.

The whole cd is quite melodic and easy-listening and it's obviously worth buying it if you're in this kind of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars HOLY $&#*! A BAND WITH MUSICAL GROWTH!, July 16, 2005
This review is from: Which Side Are You on (Audio CD)
Meet Wakefield, four guys out of Massachussetts who showcase more musical talent than 50% of the bands out currently... Combined.

I'm sure most of you who heard their first release "American Made" (which, let's be honest, doesn't even deserve a review [but I gave it one anyway]) are groaning, but hear me out. On their sophomore release, you won't hear any pop crap like "Sold Out." Instead, it's replaced with gutiar solos, a keyboard, great drum patterns, real lyrics, amazing vocals... The list goes on. As soon as I heard this CD, I couldn't help but shake my groove thing.

The opening track "Without You (Which Side Are You On?)" proves to you immediately this isn't the same band of boys, but a group of guys with something to say.

My favorite songs on the CD would have to be track 7 ("Clean 1145"), track 8 ("Asleep On Broken Teeth"), and track 4 ("Quietly Complaining").

Overall, I gave this CD 5 stars because I haven't been able to get it out of my d*** CD player since I bought it.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'd Rather Puke, August 31, 2005
This review is from: Which Side Are You on (Audio CD)
Review by Tyler Wagnon:

Here is a quote from the press release on this album, "The first single, "C'mon Baby" is catchy as all get-out, and features time-signature shifts between the chorus and the verses. "The chorus is whatever tempo it is," Ryan says, "and the verses are a whole different tempo - it was kind of a 'lets see if we can do this' type thing."

HAHAHA. You changed tempos! Wow! They say it like it's a hard concept to grasp. Not to mention it is still in a very simple verse-chorus-verse songwriting style and in the middle of the songs there is some dude RAPPING. Hahaha. Are you kidding?
Anyway, these guys play radio-friendly rock. There are moderately catchy moments, basic power chords, verse-chorus-verse songwriting, etc. They have no edge whatsoever and will surely be soon forgotten. Hopefully.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'd like to rate it no stars!!!!, December 22, 2005
This review is from: Which Side Are You on (Audio CD)
It's hard to believe who they give recording contracts to these days!!! This is the typical garbage that is played by most of the alternative-type bands out there....It's hard to tell one from the other as most groups of this type have no unique style. Hopefully, the kids who listen to this trash will eventually grow-up to appreciate what real music is.
