What genre do you prefer? Traditional JRPG or Strategy?
VC is Strategy in its Gameplay, blending elements of traditional turn-based strategy with an innovative, real-time, action aspect. VC's story feels like a JRPG story, but the rpg elements are relatively minor in the grand scheme. VC would be better described as an "Anime-Action-Strategy" game. The gameplay is focused on tactical battles, not on exploration.
RoF is a true JRPG, with gameplay more like what you'd expect from a typical jrpg like Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior. VC has a great story and art style, but RoF will probably take longer to finish. RoF is far more open with more exploration, whereas VC is more linear and mission-based.
It really depends on your gaming preferences. Personally, I think VC is one of the best (and most overlooked) exclusives on the PS3.
Sadly, VC doesn't support trophies. So if that matters to you, that may be a consideration. If price matters, VC is more affordable because it's a couple years older, whereas RoF is relatively new. But don't let VC's age scare you off - the graphics and art style are unique and gorgeous even compared to the most recent games.
Thanks a lot for your input, I've played strategy games and a few Final Fantasy games as well I'll probably get both eventually but I'm leaning towards RoF, thanks again. I recently played the VC2 demo and I really liked playing that on my PSP but sucks that it's brand new don't really want to blow 40 on a PSP game though.
