Milwaukee’s El Oso is not quite the lumbering bunch one would assume from their name. Taking cues from the most divergent elements of pop, El Oso weave together simple, stark melodies with a tinkling, underlying gurgle of experimentation – and Contraphonic Music Ltd. is thrilled to present you with the group’s debut. The tracks were recorded in an old, spooky warehouse by Josh Kristopeit, and mixed by Kristian Riley (Decibully, The New Sense, the Promise Ring). Whichever Chapter Covers Now finely balances El Oso’s singer/songwriter influences with spacious musicianship and sparkling electronic flourishes. Watch for them on the road throughout 2005!

Excellent Debut,

I picked up both this album and Troubled Hubble's "Pentubia" when they played at my college stage. Judging by the live acts I held high hopes for Penturbia and not much for "Which ever chapter covers now."
I was quite wrong. The album itself is excellent; it features thoughtful lyrics and good instumentation but the artful (and tasteful) sound editing (which is done by the band themselves) really pulls the music together. The haunting backgrounds on "Mt. Iceberg" and the juxtaposition of technobeats and acoustic guitar in "Tonights Now Tomorrow" really showcase the bands diverse talent. The band itself has a psuedo-country feeling that leaves a Counting Crows or Wilco feeling with you. But they are truely unique. From beginning to end it's an excellent album and I hope to see more of this band.
