Book Description

March 1, 2000
Veteran detective Doyle Griffin pays little attention to the news that someone has broken into the Museum of Legends in the nearby tourist town of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and has stolen the werewolf exhibit--a silver crucifix and six silver bullets. Then victims start turning up in his own county, beheaded, and with silver bullets in their hearts, canine hair on their clothes, and garlic stuffed into their body cavities. The detective turns to Sarah Trinkle, his girlfriend, who is a Wiccan priestess and a licensed psychotherapist, for help with the case.

Who did it? Was it the professed werewolf who raises and sells wolves? Was it the Indian craftsman, a former police officer, who made the silver bullets? Or was it the taxidermist with strange things in his freezer? You'll still be wondering when you get to the last chapter.

About the Author

David Hunter decided early on in his career that he needed bread on the table. The "starving artist" scene was not for him. So to feed the muse he held a variety of jobs, from ditch digger, to ambulance driver; from church pastor to cop. In his free time, he wrote.

Naturally the main bulk of his writing is police stories, both true and fiction. Books like The Jigsaw Man, Homicide Game, The Night is Mine, The Archangel Caper, and There Was Blood on the Snow, have established Hunter as the insider's insider in tales of the blue knights. But he has also written highly entertaining autobiographical books like Trailer Trash from Tennessee and When Puppy Love Became A Howling Dog.

Hunter's newest novel, Dancing Savior, has just recently been released.

Born in Knoxville, Hunter, on disability leave from the Knox County Sheriff's Department, makes his home in Powell.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hard-Edge Mystery With A Supernatural Twist, March 8, 2000

This review is from: A Whiff Of Garlic (A Silver Dagger Mystery) (Hardcover)
This has to be the best mystery that David Hunter has ever written. It's a hard-boiled who-done-it with a supernatural edge. It has everything--fast action, werewolves, and a plot that will keep you guessing until the very last page. I highly recommend this book, not only for those who like mysteries, but for those who enjoy police proceedurals as well.
