4.0 out of 5 stars A nice Euro-pop album overall, December 14, 2000
By
Sakis (San Diego, originally Greece) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Whigfield III (Audio CD)
After two wonderful albums by Whigfield, I expected something more from her 3rd release. I can't say what, and I am definitely not totally dissapointed, but I am not as excited about this CD as her previous releases. Where her 2nd album was more oriented towards Euro-dance and wonderful club songs, this one is more oriented towards more words and a more pop sound a-la "Summer Samba". I can't say she has repeated herself either. This album is definitely different. The album has some great moments, her rendition of "Be My Baby" the old 60s song is excellent, adding some upbeat drums and of course alot more happiness which is characteristic of Whigfield, "Much More" sounds like a cross betweent an Ann Lee song and Eiffel 65. "Unbelievable" has a beat that sounds a bit like Alice Deejay , but she sounds a bit mellow in it despite it being a bit of a dancey song, what I mean is that it just doesn't have the energy in her voice that "No Tears To Cry" had for example.

"Lost In You" sounds like "I Don't Wanna Be A Star" by Corona, so it has a more 70's Disco sound to it, it kinda makes you wanna wear bell-bottoms and join the fun. "Makin' My Day" sounds very childish, but cute, "Come On Baby, you're making my day, I feel so happy I could fly" are hardly a-typical Whigfield lyrics, again the beats are more pop oriented here again, and flow in the song rather than accentuating it."Outside" is an R&B ballad, that really doensn't go anywhere with me, I just don't find it interesting as say her "Close To You" R&B remix she had... Well, by song number 7 we go into the more Dance oriented songs of the CD. "Upon A Star" is definitely one of the zeniths of the CD, very Euro-dance-y, the beats get you pumping, and the vocals and lyrics are as sweet as ever, making you wanna get up and sing and dance in honor of love. It also has a very distinct Summer feel to it. "All Your Love" is also quite upbeat and danceable, and it brings to mind "We're Going to Ibiza" by the Vengaboys (although alot more faster than that). "Mi Amor" sounds like a song you'd hear in a Brazilian carnival, full of whistles, drums and energy that doesn't stop, it's also interesting to hear some spanish lyrics mixed with the english, in favor of the trends lately. "Waitin For Saturday" I guess sums up what we all feel by the end of the week, this feeling of freedom and happiness one feels while approaching the weekend. Of course this isn't the first time we heard Whigfield sing about Saturday, which makes me think that must be her favorite day of the week. "Doo Whop" is ok, but I prefer the G-Side mix from her single, than the album edit. The Megamix is a nice for all of those who haven't heard any of her songs before, but hardly anything new for all her loyal fans. One complaint I have is the cover, which is quite old, and the original US cover. She is a very pretty lady, and I don't see why she didn't put on a more recent picture of her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whigfield is back... and stronger than ever!!!, April 3, 2001
This review is from: Whigfield III (Audio CD)
Who thinks that Whigfield is/was just a one-hit-wonder is totally wrong. Whigfield finally released in the year 2000 her third album simply called "Whigfield III". This is the best Whigfield album ever I must say. The sound is the same as on the other albums "Whigfield I" and "Whigfield II", which is still unique in a way. Highlights on this CD are the songs "Doo-Whop", "Lost In You", "All Your Love" and her new single "Much More". But the other songs are great, too. It's a shame that Whigfield is not so popular anymore at the moment, but I hope that it will change soon, because she is the new face of the orange soft drink Fanta in Spain and she has new record deals in the U.K. and in Brazil. So get ready for another chapter in the Whigfield success story! This album is totally a must for all Whigfield and Ann Lee fans. Read more about Whigfield at:(web sites)
