I'll give the author this; he seems to know his subjects, and to be fairly conversant in them, and he knows what he wants to warn people about. Unfortunately, the presentation and depth of coverage make this book less convincing than it could have been. This review is from: While America Sleeps: How Islam, Immigration and Indoctrination Are Destroying America From Within (Paperback)
The emphasis in this book is on HOW: how militant Islamists get into the U. S., how they spread to cities and towns throughout the U.S., how they persuade us they are moderates, how they operate inside the U. S., how they manipulate our laws to protect their activities, how they exploit "political correctness" to escape detection.

Also, how the illegal immigration industry operates, how illegals are bussed to cities and towns throughout the U. S., how they are financed, how they have teams of free lawyers standing by to manipulate the laws of the U. S. to avoid deportation.

The INDOCTRINATION chapters include a detailed analysis of "political correctness" (which this book calls "Dhimmism" but might more properly be called "postliberalism"). We all use the term "political correctness" and think we know what it means, but most people have only a vague idea what it is, and we need to know. This book tells you in detail what it is and what it is not, how and why it developed, how it is enforced, and how it is spread. The book tells you how colleges, schools, news media, law schools, courts and Hollywood came to be dominated by "political correctness", how more and more people are being indoctrinated into this new ideology, and how the minds of people so indoctrinated actually work, including why it is impossible to reason with them. Your own children and grandchildren are being indoctrinated every day, not only in school, but from TV, pop/rock/rap music, and other sources.

Most urgently, the book tells you how "political correctness" protects the militant Islamists and illegal immigrants and guarantees that nothing will be done to stop them.

If you think somebody or other is taking care of these problems or will take care of them, then you need to read this book to find out you're living in a dream. If you think the government is so strong that you don't need to worry, then you're part of the sleeping America. People are already being hurt in many ways, but the worst is yet to come. The situation is not hopeless--not yet, but it will be in the near future if most people continue to be misinformed.

Give a copy to everyone you love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do We Really Care?, April 3, 2007
By
Book & Music Lover (Louisville, Kentucky USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: While America Sleeps: How Islam, Immigration and Indoctrination Are Destroying America From Within (Paperback)
"While America Sleeps" Islam, and every little organized crime cult from all over the world is getting it's cookies here. Sleeper cells? YES. Immigration is allowing a destruction to this once mighty country from within. Worse yet we are helping. We do not read, we allow our news media to tell us anything without question. For example 9/11, and we allow ourselves to be led by the nose by a collection of "Career Politicians" whose only true motivation is to stay in office long enough to collect a pension. People who will sell their Grandmothers for a buck.

We have those who say immigration is good for America. On its face yes. But the "Clowns" in charge of our system have no clue as to what is really happening to this country. Even now we are trying to figure out how to allow more Iraqi citizens into this country, and for what? Because we went into a country on the word of some "Cowboy" because we allowed him to be president. So now because we have destroyed their way of life we now feel the need to take care of these "Enemies." So now they will move here, and plot to destroy us as well. How cool is that?

Yes America we are asleep, and if we have another 9/11 type of an attack we have only ourselves to blame, we will not wake up.

Our schools, are going to pot, because of such things as English as a second language, and we print such things as voting forms with the waste of tax payer money in languages other than English, because the newly arrived do not bother to learn to speak English. We give away the right for our children to learn music, art, physical education, basic health, and now even history, because we have to use money to accomadate the newly arrived. Should not the responsibility for learning English lie with the newly arrived? Why cannot the immigrant hit the ground running, pay their own freight because they want to live here? Why should not someone from another country, who wants to live here in this country bare the entire cost of resettlement?

Not to mention the people who come here as tourist, from Europe, or walked across one of our "Swiss Cheese" borders, and just blend in. Use our health care, our emergency rooms, our schools, any, and all government services, and we pay. All this is destroying what we call America. This nonscense about not asking a person's legal status is bulls**t. All, and I mean all Law Enforcement needs to be responsible for the protection of this nation. I do not care if you are a school administrator, nurse, doctor, policeman or every day citizen, this is our home, and we need to protect said home. Harmless? I think not. Please start reading America, get involved, this is your home, and the government is determined to trash it for you. And because these immigrants come here pregnant have their children here should not mean they the new born become citizens automatically.

No better way to start than to read "While America Sleeps", see what and how we are loosing our happy home. We the taxpayers, the citizens of America need to take to the streets, as they did to protest the Vietnam War and protest the way this government conducts immigration. Just the same way the illegal people from Mexico, and Central America performed last Spring. We Americans need to do the same, until the "Boobs" in Washington listen. There should not be a new immigtrant admitted to this nation until some commonsense is brought to bare. And let us make sure the "Tidal Wave" of illegal immigration is ended, by putting teeth in the laws already on the books, and start to arrest those who hire people who are not in this nation leagally. You think?

This review is from: While America Sleeps: How Islam, Immigration and Indoctrination Are Destroying America From Within (Paperback)
While I am not quite prepared to say the US should be a white, Christian nation, in part because the Native Americans and the people of color we brought here in slavery have every bit as much right as we do to the place, I *am* prepared to say that we need to emulate the Spanish and issue an expulsion edict for all Muslims who refuse to adopt our customs. Any Muslim that continues to beat their wife and demand that she dress in Muslim fashion, should be shown the way out of here. Any Muslim that speaks or hears without protest the advocation of the murder of Americans on American soil should be immediately evicted with all property confiscated. Indeed, I am beginning to believe that we should outlaw foreign ownership of anything and especially land, as well as absentee landlords, and of course revoke corporate personality.

I am going to list some books at the end of this review because while the author is utterly brilliant and on point, he overlooks all the evil things the US Government is doing "in our name," and I will be the first to say we cannot restore our Republic unless we first restore both our moral compass and the sovereignty of We the People, demanding that the Constitution and Electoral Reform be the only two issues that matter henceforth.

The authors table of contents says it all, and I have never seen a better more organized laydown of content than this one, so good that I am spelling it out here because for many, the table of contents alone is sufficient (but I urge buying the book, it is very readable and thought-provoking).

This is an enormously important book that speaks to the heart and mind of every person of any race or faith who believes in America the Beautiful, in dignity, justice, and liberty for all. That's not what we stand for today, and that is a travesty of epic proportions.

One final observation: the author is completely correct in all that he says, but we have to recognize that it is the virtual colonialism, unilateral militarism, and predatory immoral capitalism (a class war on both our workers and middle class and those of other countries) that are the foundation for the mass immigration toward America. There is plenty of money for peace--for just one third of the $900 billion a year military budgets of all nations, we can resolve every single one of the ten high-level threats to humanity identified by the United Nations (with LtGen Dr. Brent Scowcroft representing America) and created infinite stabilizing wealth, what Medard Gabel calls in his forthcoming book, "Seven Billion Billionaries." We know what needs to be done, we have to take back control of the US Government from the corrupt politicians and crooked Wall Street gangs that have legalized the marginalization of the majority of all citizens.

The blind support for an Israel that is both fascist and genocidal, combined with the idiocy of hundreds of billions of dollars for Egyptian arms purchases and total subservicen to the depraved and desposit Saudi regime are signs of a government that is totally out of touch with both reality, and the possibilities of peace and prosperity. No one in Washington cares about us, only about their next bribe or paycheck or lunch hour.

This country is changing and most of us don't have any idea what is going on or why. This book shows how America is being destroyed from within. I feel it is so important that I have bought more copies to pass out to family members and friends. This is a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond the topical, June 5, 2007
This review is from: While America Sleeps: How Islam, Immigration and Indoctrination Are Destroying America From Within (Paperback)
When you encounter this book, consider looking beyond its title and listening actively to its discussion of multiculturalism as it affected many American universities. While I do not agree with the first section on Islam, I value the author's illumination of ways in which multiculturalism has lost its reference point.

Multiculturalism, the movement to give power and expression to long-excluded groups, has wide appeal, much of it well-grounded. But when its activists instead seek to suppress groups that are or appear to be privileged, true multiculturalism gives way to another kind of supremacism. Draughon performs a valuable service by showing how this reverse supremacism can grow. By pointing out how reverse supremacism can replace true multiculturalism, in part because conscientious people are confused, Draughon equips readers to object to some real and harmful distortions. These distortions have been especially prominent in colleges and universities during the past twenty years. Draughon's distinction and illustrations allow readers to object to the excesses while preserving their commitments to an inclusive society.

Draughon also clarifies several evils that have resulted from this reverse supremacism. The midsection of this book describes instances in which reverse supremacists have taken advantage of universities' commitments to multiculturalism.. While many observers lament the harm that has come to academe from this distortion, Draughon does something more useful. He shows how the constraints imposed by reversed supremacists deprive faculty of academic freedom, students of wider educational horizons, and the entire community of freedoms guaranteed to all Americans under the Bill of Rights.

If you have wished for clarity about multiculturalism, or have felt associated distortions without being able to frame them, this book should be on your reading list.

I'll give the author this; he seems to know his subjects, and to be fairly conversant in them, and he knows what he wants to warn people about. Unfortunately, the presentation and depth of coverage make this book less convincing than it could have been. The authors alarmist slant is somewhat offputting, but this doesn't mean that there's not anything to be alarmed about. Unfortunately, his style is more likely to reinforce the alarm in people who are already concerned than convince the folks who think that there's really nothing to worry about here.

I'll review with the table of contents, to give prospective readers a clearer idea of what they're buying.

Preface - 1 page, in which the author posits that citizens of the USA are not being told the whole story.

A wolf in sheep's clothing - 25 pages examining Islam, fairly effectively countering the claim that this is a religion of peace. Goes to source some - there are a group of quotes taken (without context) from the Quran. The quotes without context don't seem to be an unfair representation, but more depth would have been more revealing, and perhaps more convincing.

An Economy in Hock - 10 pages focused on the dangers of relying on oil sources in the Middle East - not only economically, but politically.

La Reconquista - 24 pages revealing the downside of illegal immigration, with primary focus on the Mexican border, Mexican insurrectionist groups, mainstream media's failure to inform the public, and BIA's inability to keep vicious criminals from reentering our country after deportation. Pretty scary stuff.

Abolishing Self-defense - 15 pages examining the demonization of gun ownership and the history of gun control laws in history, with several stories of people who have used guns in self-defense.

Subordinating Ourselves - 16 pages showing the injustices caused by the Affirmative Action program and demonstrating how it's actually preventing anyone from achieving its stated goals while it promotes opposed goals.

Subordinating Our Culture - 8 pages explaining how the Political Correctness and Multiculturalism movements were begun, and a fairly effective refutation.

Subordinating Our Country - 6 pages examining the propaganda of anti-Americanism, largely in scholastic environments, and suggesting the motive for it.

An Ideology of Submission - 6 pages explaining what the author calls "Dhimmism" (a reference to Islamic law, referring to the non-Islams who live under Islamic control), with careful examination of the differences between this and liberalism. Most of the rest of the book deals with the effects of Dhimmism on America.

Enforcing the Ideology - 15 pages showing the methods by which this political philosophy is sold to the American public, and opposing viewpoints are silenced.

Disabling Americans - 21 pages showing how this is force-fed to children and young adults in the nation's schools, to the detriment of their actual education.

Spreading the Ideology - 34 pages examining in closer detail how Dhimmism is spread through the schools, various departments in universities, mass media, news outlets, textbooks, bookstores (side note - I was amazed at Half-Price Book's gaps - for example, books on Economics are scattered throughout the remarkably small Business section; there are subjects you just can't find on their shelves), and libraries. It then goes on to examine the Supreme Court's decisions in this direction, the effect of predatory legislation, and government agencies' actions in both advancing Dhimmism and covering it up when investigating well-publicized crimes.

Can America Be Saved? - 12 pages of the Author's recommendations for policy changes that he believes will help.

Reclaiming the Individual - 12 pages offering advice on raising free-thinking children (focusing heavily on homeschooling), finding better sources for news and entertainment, and a short paragraph on how to spread the word locally.

Reclaiming the Economy - 6 pages examining options for reducing our dependence on foreign oil supplies.

Reclaiming the Government - 4 pages urging participation in the electoral process.

If All Else Fails - 6 pages offering advice on self-defense, strategies for avoiding urban fighting, and preparedness for Islamic attacks, none of it terribly promising or hopeful.

Endnotes - 43 pages of references, not broken into chapters, that you'll become far too familiar with. The author did his research, but you'll want to duplicate that effort.

While the author seems eager to name names when he's citing victims of the above problems, he's annoyingly reticent about doing so in other examples. For example, here's the second and third paragraphs of _Reclaiming the Government_, page 211:

"There are two ways to establish government by the people and for the people.
One is for the people to take over one of the two Parties. This was almost done in the 2004 election by using the Internet. (810) Even in that case, however, the TV studios and the big money contributors co-opted the candidate once he had become the front runner. (In the 2004 case, this candidate later self-destructed anyway.)"

Endnote 810 is: "Joe Trippi, _The Revolution Will Not Be Televised: Democracy, the Internet, and the Overthrow of Everything_, Regan Books, 2004.

So, if you want to know what candidate the author is talking about, you'll have to already know, or look up this other book. Some of the references are internet web sites, others are used repeatedly, so you won't need a different book for all 823 references offered, but you will wish he'd included a bibliography, which he doesn't.

Interesting for students of the genre, frustrating for those not already familiar with the arguments, and probably frightening and oblique enough to turn newcomers to the issues away to more profitable pursuits. This book had promise, and will occasionally be a 'go-to' reference because of its breadth alone, but it's lack of depth is surely its most serious flaw.

Yes, the author is remarkably biased - this book is an examination of why he's biased in that direction. There are very few unexamined opinions or tacit assumptions, though the evidence presented is not convincing without examination of his sources.

All in all, not bad - but there are better out there. Borrow this one and use the endnotes to compile a shopping list.
