Underappreciated, March 10, 2003

This review is from: While the Serpent Lies Sleeping (Audio CD)
Pierce Pettis fans sometimes rate this recording a little lower than some of his others. I've never quite agreed with that. Make no mistake, while some may be better than others, Pierce Pettis has never done a bad recording. This is a worthwhile part of his portfolio. Pettis is a Christian and doesn't hide it, something not that common in showbiz these days, yet he also addresses what it's like to be human in physical terms. "He Burns for Her" is an example of that, done with emotion, but also intellect and taste. So does "Longing." "Ghost Town" takes him back to his southern but not good-old-boy roots. This is a rocording woth owning. BTW, see him live; he's even better.

Pierce Pettis crafts wonderful songs, April 15, 2009
This review is from: While the Serpent Lies Sleeping (Audio CD)
Here's an early one of Pierce's finely crafted albums. While it's out-of-print from the record label, you can still pick up a used copy. A master guitarist in open tunings, Pierce uses the backup band to add color nuances to his tunes. He's been recording for twenty-five years and continues to create memorable tunes and spot-on turns of phrase lyrics.
