5.0 out of 5 stars If you want to know about Pregnancy this book is for you!
"While Waiting", published in 1981, was written by George E. Verrilli, M.D. and Anne Marie Mueser, ED.D. Together they composed a well-written, highly informing book about pregnancy. Both of the authors are highly educated on the subject of pregnancy, therefore in this book they are able to answer any questions an anticipating mother may have during the 9...

1.0 out of 5 stars Outrageous
I found this book to very condescending, it gives the impression that women know nothing of their bodies and need to blindly follow anything an ob tells them. Inaccurate information about common medical interventions and the necessity of C-sections are also rampant in this book. After reading the labor and delivery section I was outraged by the author's apparent belief...

"While Waiting", published in 1981, was written by George E. Verrilli, M.D. and Anne Marie Mueser, ED.D. Together they composed a well-written, highly informing book about pregnancy. Both of the authors are highly educated on the subject of pregnancy, therefore in this book they are able to answer any questions an anticipating mother may have during the 9 months of her pregnancy and after the child is born. I advise anyone who wants to educate him/herself on what a woman's body is going through during pregnancy to buy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alternative to "What to Expect", March 12, 2007

I have been an OB nurse for over 30 years and I feel that "While Waiting" is one of the best books out there for expectant parents. It has practical, easy to read advice. There is a great section on nutrution that uses things that you can find in your own kitchen - not at a health food store.
This book is given to every new mom in the OB office where I work and at every childbirth education class I teach. It would also make a perfect extra gift for a shower.

5.0 out of 5 stars It worked 20 years ago and it works today, November 24, 2007

This book hits all the basics without running anything into the ground. Used it myself 20 years ago and just gave a fresh copy to my newly-pregnant daughter-in-law.

A winner.

I'm a nurse in a prenatal clinic and I HATE "What to expect when you're Expecting". It always skips to the worst case scenario and has too much unneeded info. This book has what you really need to know, without the extraneous scary stuff. Best prenatal book on the market!!

4.0 out of 5 stars short and helpful, good section on symptoms, November 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: While Waiting (Paperback)
I found myself referring back to this one a lot, it has a very easy to find and read section on symptoms and bodily changes--what to expect when and what to do about it. I liked the drawings of how big the baby is for my older kids, too. Not very in depth, though.

Inaccurate information about common medical interventions and the necessity of C-sections are also rampant in this book. After reading the labor and delivery section I was outraged by the author's apparent belief that a new mother does not have any choices in what routine medical procedures are done to their babies. New parents need to know that THEY are in charge of what is done to/with their babies!!!
