About the Author

CJ received her first Nancy Drew book for Christmas the year she turned six. Before the next Christmas, she’d finished every Nancy Drew book written. At 11, she discovered Daphne du Maurier and the die was stamped in titanium. At 13, she penned plays starring her friends and their favorite Tiger Beat magazine crushes, a 500 page (unfinished) blatantly graphic novel (blush!) and countless story starts and stops. Her parents (pastors) were thrilled when she settled into suspense salted with romance and left the all-sex-all-the-time behind. She’s won numerous awards, finalled in dozens of contests and before her husband passed away was very involved with Colorado Romance Writers, Kiss of Death Mystery Chapter and RWfA. She lost the love of her life to an aggressive prostate cancer and avidly supports cancer prevention research and men who take saw palmetto every day. When she’s not writing, she dotes on (and loves to embarrass) her eight wonderful grandchildren: Nick, Josiah, Joshua, Naomi, Nathaniel, Rebekah, Samuel, and Timothy. She lives in a four-generation household, which gives her much insight into familial relationships. She’s a member of We Are Scripsi, where she blogs with members of her awesome and amazing critique group.

Kept me reading and I didn't want to put the book down until I finished.

I like a book that keeps me guessing, but this book was a puzzler only due to it's lack of editing, not so much by the plot or the characters.

I just finished your book "While You Were Dead", the book was a very intriguing book with a fast pace that kept your interest to the end.

The story weaves a very complex plot into a chilling and compelling multidimesional thriller. There are romantic elements, spy thriller elements, murder mystery elements and more - all tied together in a credible, yet fantastic tale. It's a real page turner - keeping the reader guessing the entire way. Lots of action, lots of tension and still the characters are developed solidly, drawing the reader into this fantastic story. This is the first book of a series and every indication is that it's going to be a great one. I'll definitely be picking up the next installment in the Black Fire series as soon as it appears. Great reading!

I don't believe I read the same book as the other reviewers. The plot was completely unbelievable. This theme is very popular so I imagine authors without a clue will keep writing about undercover operations they know nothing about. The writing is only mediocre which could be blamed on the fact that my Kindle Fire was jamming words together and putting paragraphs in the wrong place. Hopefully this is a first book for this author as she/he seems to have promise.
For a couple of dollars more I could have purchased a book by one of my favorite authors. This book should have been on the $.99 shelf.

Well, I stopped long enough to fix some food. Great story! The characters were well defined, the plot thickened and then twisted and then thickened again. The descriptions were just enough so you could picture everything, but not overbearing. Lizzie and Kat were perfect and Max was an amazing hero. The villain's were beyond the worst of bad guys. This would make a great movie! I'll be watching for more books by this author, I'm hooked :-}

Proofread! Please! Words jammed together make reading difficult. I do not recommend this until it is edited thoroughly. Don't ruin digital publishing.

At the time of writing this review, this novel has 15 five star ratings. While I generally agree with what has been written by these reviewers, it is not the best I have read due to a few frustrations with the plot (see spoiler below), hence the 4 star rating.

I would still read the next instalment of the series.

SPOILERS:
1. Ice called for Viper's help: Viper came, but they never met to co-ordinate their searches.
2. When Ice was freeing Kat from the hostages, his quick acceptance of the presence of his former team mates/smisunderstanding of why they were there just did not ring true to me.
3. Even though soldiers are trained to follow orders, I have difficulty believing they would knowingly take a child hostage.
4. If the soldiers were so elite, how did Liz get to leave the compound and get so far away (yes, I know Kat created a diversion, but for it to actually work.....!)

Expect to be hooked almost immediately. This was a Kindle Freebie that I got because I found the title amusing. Inside is an outstanding story with great characters and an intriguing plot.

A man who works for a government organization dies, his girlfriend is pregnant, her mother is in jail for killing her father, the dead man's sister and husband adopt baby, dead man returns years later not knowing his sister's child is his. The sister becomes very ill, her adopted child is kidnapped and the girlfriend returns. And that is just the beginning.

While there is a bit more romance than I usually like, it doesn't interfere with the mystery/thriller. Paying no attention to previous reviewers, I began this book in the evening. Learn from my mistake. While reading this book, one more page becomes a mantra until the book is finished and it is very early in the morning.

Well, I do think the author has a poetic style, and while it took me a few pages to adjust to the "cadence," as it were, I did find myself getting sucked into the book. I'm giving it only 3 stars because, while I'm not usually the one to take a feminist stand point in books such as these, I was a bit frustrated with the female protagonist's lack of control and complete loss of self to a slightly womanizing, machismo-embodiment of a male protagonist (come on, what decent, self-respecting man uses "baby" that much and in that way?) It was a bit hard to swallow, but not a terrible book.

I would have loved to give this book, at least, another star, but I have one complaint and it is not against the author. For some reason, on my Kindle, the words ran together, as well as the chapters. There were a couple of times that I had to go back and re-read, because the way everything was typed badly.
Now as for the book, really enjoyed it, pretty good action, clean fun, although just a little predictable, but I highly enjoyed the characters, especially the daughter; she was sassy and funny. I can't wait to get the next book and further read about these interesting and inviting characters.
If you are looking for something with some good excitement, this is the book for you.
