Book Description

Dreamland (Harper Paperback) October 27, 2009

Peace is an illusion . . . The Apocalypse is days away.

The world's attention is focused on the historic plans of the U.S. and Iranian presidents to lay down their swords. But on the African continent, one man holds the power to obliterate the peace by unleashing terror and global chaos—and no one sees it coming.

Hiding behind the bloody madness of tribal warfare in the Horn of Africa, Iranian functionary-turned-fanatic Bani Aberhadji has achieved the impossible—single-handedly creating a vast, invisible network dedicated to the construction, delivery, and detonation of a nuclear nightmare. Only by chance are American agents now learning of its existence, and it may already be too late.

Born from the ashes of Dreamland, the covert strike force Whiplash is armed and ready to spring into action—led by Dreamland veterans Danny Freah and former ace pilot, now Washington insider, Breanna Stockard. But Aberhadji's web of death is wide and well concealed . . . and the doomsday clock is ticking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dale Brown's Dreamland: Whiplash, June 15, 2010

A completely different style and tone for the Dreamland series (and Dale Brown in general), Dreamland: Whiplash shifts the series from focusing on aviation and military action in the recent past (filling in the gaps of Dale Brown's solo novel series timeline) and centers on CIA and covert action in the near future. Most of the old characters are dropped and new ones introduced. There's less technical descriptions. The vast majority of the action is on the ground, in Iran and central Africa, but since there's already dozens of Dale Brown books with airplanes and big battle scenes, who cares? It's a great thriller, realisitic and believable. Hopefully the series will continue to follow this style, because it was better than any Vince Flynn or Brad Thor books. I even liked it better than the previous Dreamland books, and it's too bad this book wasn't given a hardcover release.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad to see another one in the series, December 15, 2009
I was very happy to see that the Dreamland series wasn't over. My favorite characters of the series happened to be the Whiplash guys so this was right up my alley. If you were a fan of all the pilots and flying, this probably isn't for you. This book doesn't leave off right at the last Dreamland book, it instead jumps right into our current year so the characters are a bit older and Dreamland is no more. There's a new gang in town with a few of the old characters thrown in. A few new high tech toys are put to use but personnaly, I think the Dreamland team had better stuff. Overall, I enjoyed the book and hopefully we don't have to wait years for the next one to come out.

I've liked all the Dale Brown books and this was no exception. The characters are like
old friends, and it's always good to see them again. It's also always nice to be able to
lose yourself in a good thriller told well.
