5.0 out of 5 stars Sleaze Rock at its Best, December 27, 2003
By

This review is from: Whipped (Audio CD)
You might not be able to get a time machine to return to the Sunset Strip in the mid 80's, but you still can get the music from one of the more important bands that Hollywood produced during that era. The songs from "Whipped" represent the many of the unique signature traits the band is known for, along with the tongue-in-cheek humor nose snub to the conformists. This CD contains songs that hint at the slight incorporation of sleaze and industrial rock.

I had the opportunity to see them live on their 2003 tour. (Cleveland and Santa Ana) The Cleveland show was nothing short of amazing. They performed many songs off this disc, and did so with enough sleaze, and industrial steam train power to blast the rear wall out of the club.

As I stated earlier, this band was very under rated, and never really received the accolades they deserved. The singer, Taime Downe, has a style that is all his own, and is a perfect match for this music. But for people who know better, they can pick up this great disc and enjoy a glimpse of what the sleaze rock lifestyle was all about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly went "Out with a bang", December 17, 2000
This review is from: Whipped (Audio CD)
The third and final studio album from Faster Pussycat shows they were heading in an exciting direction. Some people thought it didn't rock out as much as the first two but songs like "Jack" and "Body thief" kept that rocking sound going.

The band expanded their horizons greatly with the 7 minute epic "Nonstop to nowhere" which should have been a hit...... "Big dictionary" and "Loose booty" were funny, light-hearted care free tracks about women, again nothing serious but always brings a smile to your face just like the rest of the band's output.

"Maid in wonderland" has great vibes to it, similar to Enuff Z'Nuff, the Beatles or Cheap Trick, maybe even Oasis who weren't big at the time. "Madam Ruby's Love Boutique" had a fine groove to it. "Cat Bash" was a backlash to all the critics, one you got to hear to believe sort of like GNR's "Get in the ring" in a way except that it isn't a regular song. "Out with a bang" was a very prophetic closer as this band went out with a bang with this great record and were gone from the scene just months later.

Only a couple ballad types made it on here, well three. "Mr. Lovedog", a emotional track called "Friends" sent out to 'the boys or bros' rather than any women. And the third ballad is another ballad about abuse, "Only way out" similar to "House of Pain." Clearly one of the best of 1992 and I would rank it up there with the other two albums, slightly different but not a sell-out, not a heavier, modern attempt to stay hip, the songs and writing have slightly matured a bit here and there but it is all evolution rather than a drastic change. Not everything on the album is overly 'catchy' so those who say it was a commercial album lack the knowledge. If you got their other stuff, you have got to track this one down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Band hits their creative peak, But grunge killed 'em, January 9, 2004

While most hair metal just did the same thing over and over again. Pussycat at least tried to expand their sound and that's what most of this LP contains. From the great ballads "Nonstop to Nowhere"(a loser finds himself an adult with a wasted life) and "Mr. Lovedog"(a great ode to Mother Love Bone's Andrew Wood who died of a heroin overdose). To some real horrrific events "Only Way Out", "Body Theif" and "Maid in Wonderland." While most hair metal fans will not like the albums somber tone, there still is some great music on it and the band sounds great.
Basically, Pussycat knew the party was over and in a few months after this release(I actually saw them on one of their last shows in Philadelphia, they were great) so where they.
