5.0 out of 5 stars Why didn't I think of this?
Being a "popcornoholic" isn't easy. Going to the movies and eating the entire monster bucket before the coming attractions are over is not something I'm proud of. But I am proud of my 6 quart Whirley pop.The concept is soooo simple, but the results sooo good. The popcorn is better than great... light and fluffy, no unpopped kernals, no scorched pans. 3.0 out of 5 stars A Lot Of Work For Good Popcorn.
"Whirley Pop" is a pot which is heated on the stove. There is a hand crank with which the popper keeps the kernels moving while the heat rises. Compared to the electric poppers with which I am familiar, this one is a lot of work, although the popcorn is good.

While the Whirley popper is a bit difficult to store, I keep it on my refrigerator for easy access. And it really only takes 3 minutes to pop... faster and better than the microwave. While there is a pan to clean, it cleans very easily. It makes quick and easy glazed popcorn as well. And the best part of all is that I don't have to pay theater prices for my favorite treat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Popcorn!, October 7, 2003
This review is from: Whirley Pop Gourmet Popcorn with 6-Quart Stovetop Popcorn Popper (Kitchen)
We purchased this popper some time ago to replace another brand, and this one is the greatest. Turns out the best popcorn you can eat. Beats microwave or air popped corn hands down!

You can pop with or without oil.

My only complaint is the plastic gears connecting the crank to the stirring filaments. We use the popper at least weekly, and it wasn't long before the plastic wore down and "stripped" to the point that the crank shaft spun uselessly in the gear. We were able to drill a tiny hole and insert a tiny metal pin that fixed the problem, but not everyone is going to have the tools or the patience to do that.

I saw a popper in a local store that used metal gears. Maybe Wabash should think about doing the same to give their popper excellent durability.

This will become my standard wedding gift to couples I know entering marriage!

5.0 out of 5 stars Because it's simply the best!, December 9, 2002

When my husband purchased this popcorn maker over a year ago, I thought he was crazy. Neither one of us were avid popcorn eaters, but Whirley Pop with it's theater popcorn came in highly recommended from his co-worker/friend. Now, whenever we get ready to sit down to watch a movie on TV, we crank out the best tasting popcorn in less than five minutes. Whirley Pop makes awesome popcorn kernels that taste GREAT! The theater style is exactly that, but fresh! (It may be a bit too salty for some, but you can hold back some of the salt if it bothers you and still enjoy some great popcorn!) Wabash Valley also makes other wonderful tasting gourmet popcorns you can order through their site. But, they will also give you instructions for cooking grocery store kernels. For the price, taste, and ease of you, you simply can get any better than with Wabash Valley popcorn and their Whirley Pop popcorn maker. You'll never want to eat microwave popcorn ever again.(This cooks just as fast!) We never regretted getting this item and have purchased gift sets for friends knowing we won't go wrong.

This is the best popcorn popper I have ever used. I have never burned even one kernal using this popper. The popper requires a minimal amount of oil and tastes much more flavorful than microwave or air popped popcorn.

5.0 out of 5 stars No microwave popcorn smell, September 21, 2008

This review is from: Whirley Pop Gourmet Popcorn with 6-Quart Stovetop Popcorn Popper (Kitchen)
This thing is the best, I am so happy to have really fast popcorn without my entire house smelling like microwave popcorn, or scorched popcorn. This is truly amazing, and I think a lot cheaper and healthier than buying the microwave kind. I have ordered some sample packs of different kinds of corn to try, looking forward to having an excuse to make a ton of this stuff. Better than the air popper I have cause that one spews popcorn all over if you aren't careful, plus makes a ton of noise. Anyway, love this thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made in USA and Best Popcorn Ever, December 2, 2003

I thought microwave popcorn was convenient--This popper beats all! Control the seasonings, the butter...in 4 minutes you have a fully popped container...no unpopped kernals, nothing burnt. Make "movie theater style," kettle corn with sugar, one of the colored popcorns (red, blue or white or plain) or just popcorn with a little olive oil. The kids love it too--much cooler but reminiscient of the jiffy pop days of the 1970s! Plus Whirly pop makes them in the USA which is MY BIG THING! This cannot compare with some cheap knock off made in China...Happy Popping!

5.0 out of 5 stars I now love popcorn!, November 13, 2003

I was never a fan of microwave or movie popcorn, but my husband was. I bought this for him, and now I eat just as much as he does. It's easy to clean, easy to use, and the recipe booklet that was included has great ideas! The popcorn comes out tender and never chewy, and there's usually only a kernel or two unpopped. Best of all, we save so much money by not buying microwaveable popcorn-and we often forgo sweets to make popcorn. This has easily paid for itself in mere months. We're buying this for both of our parents this Christmas.

Easy to use, easy to clean and makes delicious popcorn. Every popcorn lover should own one, just as easy as microwave popcorn, but more economical and better tasting!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best way to make popcorn. Period!, July 10, 2003

This review is from: Whirley Pop Gourmet Popcorn with 6-Quart Stovetop Popcorn Popper (Kitchen)
As a frequent chomper of popcorn, I can honestly say that I have tried popcorn from all the various popping methods that exist. This popper is NOT difficult and is VERY fast. The aluminum pot conducts the heat from your stove VERY quickly and, before you know it, you have perfect, un-burned, thoroughly-popped popcorn. After I dump the popcorn into a large bowl, I use the pot to quickly melt some butter to top-off the snack. It truly is not much more effort than tearing open a microwave popcorn bag and waiting for it to be done. In fact, if you care about the quality of your food ingredients, making popcorn with the Whirley Pop is WAY better than all the junk they add to mircowave popcorn (read the ingredient label!). Enjoy
