My Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator stopped making ice (and dispensing it). Called a repair guy to solve both--he was able to fix the dispensing problem but not the ice making issue. Some quick google research indicates it's the optic control boards. I verified mine were bad by checking for IR with an Ipad camera--if you point an IR source (such as the emitter in the fridge board or an average TV remote) into the Ipad camera (or may smartphone cameras), you can see the IR light.

Bought this part from Amazon--it was $20 bucks more, but between buying from Amazon and being Prime I knew they'd make it right if the part did not work. Changed out the boards in perhaps 10 minutes. It requires nothing more than a phillips screwdriver and a bit of patience. IR light--check. It harvested the ice in the tray, passed the optic test (two blinks when open, solid LED when door open and flapper shut) and I had ice in an hour. Ice container has filled, optics stopped the ice maker as designed about a day later (mine is the tiny 5 cube maker).

The part appears to be factory legit--it comes with an instruction sheet with Whirlpool markings, and the markings match the one that came out of my fridge. I'm told these things go frequently--my original one burned out in about 7 years. 80 bucks in parts beats a new fridge. I'll revisit and perhaps go to 5 stars in a few months once I verify that the boards continue to work.

Replacing these electronic modules (there are 2 of them in this kit ... one on each side of the freezer door) fixed my icemaker problem. It was not the icemaker itself, and it was not the water solenoids. That being said, I do recommend replacing the icemaker if your refrigerator is at least 5 years old. See my review on this.

Replacing these modules is a very easy to do fix ... but take your time ... the wire harnesses are short ... don't try to yank them out of the door or you'll have a bigger problem on your hands. Be sure to unplug the refrigerator before working on any electronic components. After everything in newly installed and re-secured, make sure the icemaker switch is flipped to the OFF position, then plug the refrigerator back in. THEN turn the icemaker switch ON. You should start getting ice in an hour.

BEWARE! This control board is neither made by Whirlpool, nor is it a factory specification part authorized by the manufacturer to repair their appliances.

As of the date of this review, take a good look at that picture of the part by enlarging it. You can clearly see the letters FSP inside the parallelogram outline. This indicates it is a Factory Specification Part, and it is printed on both circuit boards. This influenced my decision to purchase it, as it would mean it isn't a generic or rebuilt junk part, which in my opinion are inferior. I wanted Whirlpool, as the one that failed is original and lasted 9 years.

The product description is equally deceptive, as it uses the Whirlpool part number followed by "Genuine Replacement Part". It is genuine in the fact that it does exist. It ISN'T genuine Whirlpool or genuine FSP, which the use of "genuine" alludes to without actually stating it.

Upon getting my package, I noticed that the parts box didn't have any Whirlpool writing or markings on it. That didn't bode well, but I opened the box. Inside were a set of directions printed on a piece of paper, which also had no manufacturer markings. The two circuit boards were in separate anti static bags, luckily see through. Both parts were of course lacking my above criteria. I didn't have to open the bags, so I immediately filed to return these items. I am not pleased that I have to eat the shipping back to partshouse because the picture is not of the actual item you receive and the description is deceptive in conjunction with the picture. DON'T buy if you are picky about your replacement parts. But if you like to roll the dice with a part that may not last as long as a factory part, by all means buy this.

I purchased this control board because my ice maker was not making ice. The LED light was blinking twice, then pause and would blink again. Replacing the boards seemed the most common and logical fix. The part I received was a new factory part. Thanks to Amazon, Parts4sale and You Tube I was able to replace this part and fix my refrigerator myself and saved approximately $260. Woke up this morning to a bin full of ice. I chose expedited shipping and received the part within 48 hours.
UPDATE:
You might buy a few of these. It's 2-6-16 and I'm replacing again.

Received genuine replacement parts and worked perfectly. My only frustration is with Whirlpool not the vendor. I ended up only needing to replace one board - the small IR transmitter. This is literally about $4 worth of parts and 2 components. Had I known what I was doing I probably could have replaced the resistor and IR led on board myself for pocket change. Oh well. Still far cheaper than service call.

This product worked to resolve an issue where our ice machine was not making ice. If your ice machine is not making ice then the most likely cause is the sensor. It's a quick 5 minute replace and has you making ice again within 24 hours!

Also, this is a genuine Whirlpool part, not a 3rd party.
