3.0 out of 5 stars Impeller shaft broke after 3 years
This pump worked as advertised several years but, as others have written, the plastic connection between the impeller blade and the magnet that the motor spins broke. This caused the motor to stay running but not pump anything. No harm done as I have a water sensor on the floor that alerted me to the overflowing reservoir. Tried using epoxy to fix it to no avail.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whirlpool Dehumidifier Pump Kit Kit #8212501, July 3, 2008

After 7 seasons of removing water from my dehumidifiers by hand I was ready to try a product like this.

The idea behind this product is simple. It works on the same principle as a sump pump. When the water reaches a certain point in the pumps well area,a quick burst of pumping action causes the water to flow up a hose and out to wherever you route the end of the hose-in my case through a drilled hole outside my basement area to the outside of my house.

Installation was easy enough.I simply cut the hose to my needed length, attached it to the unit, attached the other hose connection to my dehumidifiers hose connector (for condensation that comes out of the actual dehumidifier) and plugged the unit in.Let me mention(no laughing please)that I broke my nose during this simple installation by having too tight of a hole drilled to the outside for the outtake hose.I was pulling the hose with a needle nose plier to pull through the hole and ended up smashing my nose when the plier slipped and my knuckle came smashing on to my nose.I needed a nose job anyway...

Anyway, the unit works really well and now I can leave home for days at a time and know that my basement is at a safe 45% humidity level.Without the unit turned on it would be twice that amount at least.

Just be aware that the dehumidifier pump needs to be physically lower than the dehumidifier. The gravity will force the condensation down the hose in to the dehumidifier pump.I made the mistake of leaving both level with each other and found the the water was just building up and began running out on the the floor.

Besides the pliers hitting my face (I`ll remember it every time that pump turns itself on) and having to figure out that gravity needs to be used to make things work correctly, I am so happy with the results. If it lasts a few years it will be worth the 96 $ (shipping included) I paid for the pump.

Editors note- It is now Oct of 09` and the pump continues to work perfectly. It has been on for the last two seasons (Apr-Oct of 08 and 09) and still no problems.

2nd editors note-It`s now May 2011 and unit still working perfectly

I agree with "Broke": after less than one year, the plastic impeller shaft assembly disintegrated.

2.0 out of 5 stars Broke, September 16, 2008

This item worked great for a year then it broke. The motor was good but the assembly that actually pumped the water was cheap and wore out. Not a good value for the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Review of Whirlpool Humidifier pump, January 7, 2010

The pump is fine , and the price was very good. The discharge hose supplied with the pump was inferior, and had to be replaced with one that was not so badly compressed. Whirlpool shouyld supply a better vinyl discharge hose for these pumps

3.0 out of 5 stars The kinks and drains of old, September 26, 2011

It works. However, the hose was terribly kinked, which could have been avoided just by packaging it rolled instead of folded. This created a difficult installation and uncertain drainage. Also, I wish it could be a closed system instead of an open reservoir. The short hose coming from my dehumidifier simply lays into the pump's reservoir through a simple oversize hole in the top of the reservoir, then as the pump detects a certain level of water it turns on and pumps the water out through the attached longer hose, which I have running out of a hole in my foundation. The situation this creates is that if the pump ever fails, my dehumidifier will continue to dump water into the pump's reservoir regardless of whether it is getting pumped out or not, which means it could eventually overflow into my crawl space. If it were a sealed drainage system, the pump's reservoir would fill up but not overflow, and instead would backup into the inlet hose and push back into the dehumidifier's reservoir eventually causing it to turn off once that reservoir is full. Having said all that, I am enjoying not having to go into my crawl space twice a day to empty my dehumidifier. As long as everything keeps working, it's great. So I'm happy... just a little nervous.

I have been used it for a single season and it worked as advertised. Everything that I needed to pump the water outside was included.
