Poor quality, STAY AWAY,

Replaced our dishwasher of 5+ years with this low cost Whirlpool model. After 1.5 years, the motor seized up, just after the "extended" warranty expired. Since the motor costs $400, we're stuck with buying a new dishwasher.

I am surprised at the low reviews this dishwasher got. I got it because it was a low priced, highly-rated dishwasher recommended in "Consumer Reports". Compared to my previous dishwasher, it is quiet and cleans upper and bottom rack beautifully. As the manufacturer points out, it does require the use of a rinse aid to keep the glassware and silverware from spotting. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that the silverware tray is in the door and is not big enough. I knew this from reading reviews and made sure my old silverware rack from my previous dishwasher would fit on the bottom rack when I needed it. For my husband and me this works great, though it does limit the capacity of the bottom rack; but back when I had 3 kids at home, I would have prefered a different model. Aside from the silverware issue, I hope I continue to have a good experience with this model, and would recommend it to others.

I have owned this dishwasher for just under 2 years. It has never cleaned the dishes well. I always have to rinse the dishes or there is food left on them. I use the detergent that the dishwasher recommends but it leaves a white film on the glasses and anything that is plastic. It is very noisy. My old Kenmore dishwasher always cleaned my dishes and the glasses sparkled. I wish I had it back but it stopped after 15 years. Don't waste your money on this dishwasher. I would definitely spend more and get something better. It runs fine but just doesn't clean the dishes.

I purchased this dishwasher and the motor blew completely in two years. After many phone conversations and emails, they would do not about it. Dont buy one- they are junk!

Same exact thing as all the other negative reviews on this one. Bought due to the positive reviews in consumer reports and also because we had a 10 year old Whirlpool Gold that worked great. Thought Whirlpool would be a quality brand. Same symptoms, If I have to fill my dishwasher on both racks, I have to remove all the bottom rack items and then put the 'still' dirty items from the top rack in and run it again. So much for energy savings! Now I'm off to find a brand that will be quality to replace this one. This is now out of warranty and its at least 91.00 just for a service call to have it diagnosed. The repair man came out once already and said he didn't see anything wrong.

Disappointed!,
This review is from: Whirlpool : DU1055XTVB 24in Full Console Dishwasher with 4 Wash Cycles Black
We bought this dishwasher a year and half ago because of decent reviews and because Consumer Reports rated it favorably. I'm disappointed to say that we will be spending over $225 to get the control panel fixed after it quit working. We didn't buy the cheapest model because we wanted something with nice features that would last. I will say that this is the LAST time that I will buy a Whirlpool appliance. I would tell anyone to STAY AWAY from this dishwasher, unless you want to have some expensive fixes in the future.

I purchased this model last August (August 30, 2010) and it now needs a new control panel (approximately $200). I am very displeased with the Whirlpool name now and will not purchase another Whirlpool appliance.

We purchased this dishwasher almost two months ago. It worked pretty good and even cleaned the non-stick skillets, something our 20yr-old dishwasher did not do. But then recently Cascade changed the detergent formula, and now the non-stick surfaces do not come clean any more. Just as well though, as I think it was ruining the aluminum. The soak cycle is really handy for extremely dry baked-on foods, I use it with detergent, too bad there's no timer to stop it; another soap dish and the option to continue to the full pots cycle would be nice, but hey this is not an upscale washer, you get what you pay for. I really like the new in-the-door utensil tray, we kept our old tray to use in the rack just in case, but never did that. Using the utensil slots in the hinging plastic overlay means you can put more utensils in less space and they still come clean. Be aware long utensils like knives and large spoons will block the soap dish hinged-cover, so don't put those there! If you need more utensil space then you probably have run out of utensils to use, and have more than the average family. The wash cycle is 2 hrs so don't put wood things or wood handled utensils in there. Wash them by hand.We have had a couple of times when (some of) the dishes didn't get clean, but that was when I really jammed them in there (overloaded). Also, even though the top rack has that little dinky sprayer above, when you put large items on the top rack horizontally the top is left with food particles on it, so don't do that. This dishwasher does not clean baking pans well in the corners of the pans (for baked-on tough spots), even if you leave several inches clear in the front of said pans. Expect to wash these, and your skillets, by hand. The noise is average in my opinion, and if you buy a stainless steel model it would be worse. I like the controls, easy to use and smart - you can open in the middle of cycle without a hitch. I do wish it did not default to heated dry, but that just means I push one more button every time I start the cycle, and if I forget I can change it mid-cycle. Also I wish it had a heated-rinse option in the "light" cycle. You get what you pay for, and this is a budget model. If I were better off, I would've bought a Bosch or Miele. IMO all Sears/Whirlpool/Kenmore/Frigidare are the same, GE is no better, just cheap appliances, but I can't afford better. Average value.

Had this whirlpool dishwasher for 2.5 years and the motor seized up. Repair dude costs us $89.95 to listen to it for 5 seconds and tell us what we feared, $400 to fix a $400 dishwasher. Had 2 yr warranty, go figure.

After taxes and delivery, I paid $400 for this dishwasher. It failed twice under the 1 yr warranty. I then purchased the 1 yr extended warranty. 3 months after that expired it failed again. Entirely frustrated that this didn't last and it was a burden having it.If it lasted, I would have rated 3.5 stars since it cleaned most things well and was quiet enough. Would not recommend this machine. |
