Look for another machine!,
This review is from: Whirlpool Duet Sport HT : WFW8400TW 27 Front-Load Washer - White
I have had this washer for 10 months. Bought it brand new and followed all instructions. First, it develops mold around and inside the rubber seal. The mold/mildew is impossible to remove. This happened even though the door was left open at ALL times when washer was not in use. Second, in attempting to be environmentally correct, very little water is used. Consequently, the clothes do not get clean. Do NOT buy this washer. As soon as I can save enough money, I will be buying a top loader, in which clothes can be soaked and come out clean- and no mold/mildew washed with my clothes!

poor quaility, poor service from whirpool,
This review is from: Whirlpool Duet Sport HT : WFW8400TW 27 Front-Load Washer - White
Bought this washing machine a year and 1 month ago. Needs 400$ dollars in repairs. A stabilizing arm behind the drum broke and chewed up the drum. Machine is 1 month out of warranty. Whirpool refuses to fix the washer. Guess we are buying a Samsung or LG this time. We will never buy a Whirpool appliance again.

Poor Quality - Beware,

We bought a Whirlpool Duet Sport fron load washer a couple of years ago - and now it needs hundreds (at least 300 - probably more like 400) dollars in repairs. Very poor quality and no help from Whirlpool - since it's out of warranty. Beware - you may need a new washer in a few years.

The motor on my Duet Sport burned out after relatively light use and only two and a half years. Of course that's long enough that the company won't cover the defective motor. Plus, the unit has a design flaw which traps water and causes mold and mildew. Whirlpool's customer service seemed neither surprised nor sympathetic when I called to arrange service and register a complaint.
Looking into Kenmore which I hear has a much better front load energy saving model. I won't buy Whirlpool again. Ever.

Frustrating!!,
This review is from: Whirlpool Duet Sport HT : WFW8400TW 27 Front-Load Washer - White
I hate this washer! As another person wrote, I get the f11 error everytime I run a cycle. I have to spend the first 10 minutes of the cycle in the laundry room because the error goes off every minute (literally), and you have to press pause and restart or the cycle won't continue. My clothes do not get clean in this washer, and I feel like they come out smelling worse than when they went in. This washer is also hard on my clothes. After just a few washes my clothes get very old looking (a problem I never had with my old top loader). This washer frustrates me to no end and I am buying a new washer this weekend!! FYI, the matching dryer is nice.

This product is a lemon. Before you buy, search for F11 error,

Few products inspire the degree of hatred and loathing I have for this product. In my mind I imagine a crane dropping it off a cliff to see it smash into little bits. Then a steam roller flattens the remaining parts. The grand finale would be a meteor hurtling into the remains leaving only smoldering ashes.
We have had our Duet for 6 years. After about 2 years of use, our Duet would sporadically stop working and start beeping with error code F11. Once you see this error you are in for a slow death spiral. Every time it beeps F11 you must manually press cancel and start. I can not tell you how many hours of my life this machine has taken from me pressing cancel and restart. Today our Duet did this for 2 hours straight and I had to take our load of laundry out of the washing machine and into the dryer unclean. I am tired of being captive to this piece of junk and I am replacing it today. If I can help one other person from having to suffer from this product, this review has done its job. Before you even consider purchasing a Whirlpool Duet, do yourself a favor and search for F11. One site has 180 reviews of this product with 90+% of them being 1 star.

Nice machine!!,

We bought this washer (WFW8400TW00) and gas dryer pair (WGD8300SW1) in November 2008. At first I thought there was something wrong due to the small amount of water it was using. Then realized that's how High Efficiency washers work. Our clothes are much cleaner, seem to last longer and when the spin cycle is over the clothes do not need much dryer time. We have had zero problems; we leave the door open after use and do the recommended cleaning cycle periodically. We bought the pedestals later and strongly recommend them, much easier loading and unloading and they serve as storage. We hope to have them for a long time.

Whirlpool Duet Washer,

In January of 2009 we purchased a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer set from East Coast Appliance in Newport News, Virginia.
In October 2010 the washer started to make a significant noise when the drum was spinning. We had a service technician check the washer and he advised us the drum and rear tub shell needed to be replaced. I called your customer service personnel and was advised that the only remedy they could provide was a 50% discount on parts. On Dec 1st I talked to Tasha at Whirlpool and ordered the two parts. I asked for email confirmation on the order and Tasha stated she would do that. I also left several phone numbers as contacts. All of the phones have either an answering machine for voice mail. I have not received that email conformation. A Whirlpool box arrived on 6 December and I arranged for the technician to make the repairs on December 11. When the technician arrived and opened the box, only one of the two parts had been delivered. There had been no communication from Whirlpool advising me that one of the parts had been backordered and there was no invoice on the box. On December 12th I submitted a customer comment on your website and asked that I be called. On December 13th I called twice and both times was disconnected both times. On December 14th I talked to Danielle. At first she advised that the order had been completed. Then, on further checking she noted that the rear tub shell had been back ordered. She could not give an estimated time when it would arrive. When I asked why no one had contacted me to advise me that one of the parts was back ordered, she stated that that was not Whirlpool policy. When I asked if someone could call me when the part arrived she stated that could not do that. While I understand that an extended warranty is available and would have protected me, I believe that what is supposed to be a top of the line washer should not have major problems within two years of purchase. As there are only two of us at home, it is not that the washer is getting heavy use. But, what is more discouraging to me is what I perceive as an unacceptable level of customer service.

We bought the Whirlpool Duet Sport on Oct 4, 2010. It worked fine until (interestingly enough) mid-January when it started making a loud banging noise which also rocked the machine across the laundry room floor. Since it was more than 90 days after purchase (just barely!), there is reluctance to working with the customer to get a replacement. So, to the repair department we went. By the time they showed up, the machine was unusable and a film of grey dust had accumulated around the front of the machine on the floor. Well, it turns out the front counterweight had broken loose and was banging on the inside of the washer and the pump. (The counterweights are made of a concrete-like substance.) Under a service agreement fortunately, the repair cost would have been well over $400. Less than 3 weeks later, there is a tell-tale banging noise coming from the machine again. Well, guess what???? The counterweight bolt was stripped again and was in the process of breaking loose...again. Now with another service call of over $320 in parts and labor (fortunately, still under service agreement), we are waiting for for the technician to install the parts. I am SO-O-O-O glad I bought a service agreement or this thing would be at the local landfill by now. Really too bad because I like the machine when it's working like it should :^P. It cleans well and we are very careful about wiping out any extra water accumulation in the rubber seal and leaving the door open when not in use so there have been no issues with odor. I have to admit though, if I'd known all this in October, I would have bought a Kenmore efficient top-loader. Should have done my research. Shame on me!

Whirlpool Sport Duet Washer Failure,
By Lorraine Braaten (Fairmont, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Whirlpool Duet Sport HT : WFW8400TW 27 Front-Load Washer - White
We purchased the Whirlpool Sport Duet,3 years ago, having been satisfied with other Whirlpool appliances. We installed the combo in an infrequently used vacation home. We noticed immediately that it took much longer for clothes to wash and that the capacity was diminished compared to our home Whirlpool Cabrio top loader but adequate for its location. Then 3 mos ago the washer suddenly stopped doing the fast spin cycle at the end. We got the dealer repairman to come an fix it..He called in for assistance and then ran a diagnostic on the machine and suddenly the computer board "short circuited" or burned out and the machine went dead. The repairman called for assistance again and reported that the complete repair would cost $580.00. The current unsuccessful service call cost $110 paid immediately. He did suggest that I call Whirlpool customer service to see if I could get a better deal on the electronic component that could cut the cost by 20%. He stated that the customer complaining could sometime result in a cost saving that the dealer repair department could not get. So I called Whirlpool customer service and asked if there might a manufacturing defect with this model that they were aware of a might provide some extended warranty to cover such a costly repair. The customer service rep informed me that they could only deal with the dealer repair service dept and might provide up to 20% discount on parts. So there we are, a relatively mediocre new machine with nearly $700.00 repair needed. Never ever consider a front loader machine again. This machine will most likely have to be junked.
