I live in Texas where it gets to be 115 at times so a good A/C is a must. I have tired Frigidaire, GE, and other models of window A/C's over the years and Whirlpool is the best. They are made from better materials that last 5 times as long as other brands and the A/C itself outperforms others hands down. It reads the room temp correctly which other brands do not which helps keep the room at the temp you want. This A/C also runs quieter than other brands and blows colder and blows out a higher volume of air then other brands. They may cost more money but they are worth every penny then some. Take my advise and buy a Whirlpool A/C and you will be happy and cool for years to come. I will update this in a year to let you know how it is running.

It works great so far. Like the other reviewer , my ac was also dented on the side, and the front cover was falling off. It took a bit to clip all the vent louvers back in place. It gets cold quick and cools great, the fan is somewhat loud, only because it moves a ton of air, even on low. I like the auto mode, but I imagine most ACs in this class have the same features. I got it cause of its newer design, not as outdated looking as the LG.
The display is all blue light, and very bright. Overnight mode is interesting. Its sets the fan speed to low, raises the temp 2 degrees an hour for two hours, then holds that temp for 6 hours, then goes back to your previous settings. It also turns off the bright display lights. I'm happy with my ac, although having something this heavy shipped UPS is taking a risk.

I decided to write a review in case someone is considering buying this discontinued Whirlpool A/C. I was very disappointed with my options at the big box stores. The Frigidaires were ugly and the LG's were not well rated. What happened to the days when you could go into an appliance store and buy a quality product? And to be noted, I had recently bought another house and was struggling with the "look" of these fascades matching my wood trim. I'd also like to mention that this house needed a refrigerator (as it was missing come the closing) so I purchased a Frigidaire basic refrigerator to keep things cold until I decided how to do over the kitchen. Later I discovered that Inside the "cold case" said Electrolux. Hmm....I didn't know they made refrigerators, I thought they made my grandmother's canister vac. But i digress. My point is we don't know who makes what anymore and the "deals" that we think we are getting seem to be disposable rattling products like Haier A/C's etc.
I stumbled across this 12,000 BTU Whtrlpool and it has the quality of the olden days. It is handsome to look at, the cool air blows up so that if you needed to put a chair in front of it, a person wouldn't be sitting in the arctic. It has a lot of great functions and the price, for its size was fantastic. The complaints concerning the lower model, 10,000 BTU are of leaking and some people have a problem with the "Eco" setting. I have not had any such complaints. As with any window A/C, it has to be installed properly, and at a tilt. The side "arms" are quality and not flimsy. This is my second summer having it and it cools the smaller of my two homes. (I use a Vornato (fan) air circulator which they don't make anymore, to blow air to other rooms.
