Over the Range Microwave Oven with 1100 Cooking Watts & Instant Defrost: Stainless Steel]] I purchased this Whirlpool Microwave 2 years ago and it has seen light use during this period. My wife gets home late at night and I use hood lights to dimly illuminate the kitchen. Just recently I awoke to find this Whirlpool Microwave completely dead. No power, no clock, nothing. The bulbs in the hood lighting look as though they became extremely hot before burning out. The ceramic fuse was burnt, too, the main inverter board. Again, this occured when the microwave wasn't being used, when I was asleep. I contacted Whirlpool who refuses to do anything. To repair it will cost $400+ dollars. So I guess I will be buying a new microwave; definitely 'not' any Whirlpool item.

Same story as previous reviewers -- the microwave came with the new home we purchased a couple of years ago. I didn't find it in any retail stores then. And it now seems that the whirlpool created a cheap/pathetic model for builders only. The stainless steel and all the fancy features look nice but it doesn't last.
We had a broken grill THREE times in first year and the front panel stopped working after about 9 months. The first year warranty covered the 4 service visits (and new parts). And after a year and 8 months, the handle came off!!!
We were furious and gave whirlpool customer service a piece of our mind. After much argument over few days, they agreed to replace the microwave with a different model (charging us the difference in price and labor).
I will see how it goes. The only hope I have is that this is a model available in retail stores and if my theory is correct, it should be better than the "builder-only" model that we currently have.

And if you are thinking that i may have gotten a "lemon", think again. Two of my neighbors and the club-house have the same model -- all broken.

This is a horrible product. Bought our house new. The first microwave of this model died in about 1.5 years. I thought it was a fluke and bought the same model. This second one died one month over the 1 year mark. Called Whirlpool and they just said I was out of luck. AVOID THIS MICROWAVE and any microwave made by Whirlpool

This microwave from Whirlpool came with my new house when i bought it. after the first six months of use the handle, top grate/vent thingy and paint where all coming off or broken. A year into use and now the microwave wont even work. The funny thing is all my neighbors have the same microwave and there's are doing the same thing. Consumer beware.

We had a similar experience as noted above. One of the bulbs became hot & blew & now the whole unit is dead. We have had the unit about two (2) years and hardly use it at all.

Other reviews were right on...vent on top broke quickly. Was holding it together with some duct tape. I could live with that until it stopped heating the food altogether. Everything else works, using as an expensive clock for the time being. You've been warned!

Like many others, we got this microwave with our new home. Little over a year later, it no longer works. Powers up fine and appears like it's working but no heat!!! Will not buy from whirlpool again!!
