5.0 out of 5 stars No problems, just a great fridge
I haven't ever had any freezing of liquids in the refrigerator compartment. I've heard people complain about it, but all my foods have been the correct temperature, and I place my milk and juices right next to the ice maker. Yes, you do have to bend down to get items from the freezer bin, but that's not a symptom of this fridge, it's ANY bottom chest freezer. However,...

3.0 out of 5 stars GI5FSAXVY Review, October 2, 2010

Let's put it this way, I had a Whirlpool double wide before and bought in to this French door stuff and will never buy one again. Please make sure you consider how you will access your frozen foods. Also consider how much space will be taken in order to get ice and water out the front door. Also note that you have to open both doors most of the time to access most of your foods. Here are the issues with this model:
1) Although the manual shows a onetime leveling mechanism through the wheels, in actuality you have to level it through leveling feet. Thus once you have it level you will have to unlevel it to move the refrigerator to clean. That is a pain and sucks they didn't correct their manual to show it.
2) The website graphics show a dairy bin, but in actuality you don't get one and you can't purchase one. Now we drop our butter in their soda holder which is useless anyways.
3) They give you this soda metal slide out rack that is at an angle for the sodas to roll out. The problem is that we don't have a need for two soda holders. You can't use the rack for anything else except sodas based on it design. We use it now to sloppily hold yogurts.
4) Although this is Energy Star, they have to put a dehumidify heater between the two French doors in order for moisture not to form on the outside of the refrigerator. This is a feature you turn on if needed and it only took a day to realize I have to keep this heater on all the time, so much for energy savings.
5) They use the Ice maker as a way to distribute the cooling into the refrigerator. Unfortunately things are so ergonomically tight that all the milk and water products freeze. The solution has been to raise the freezer temperature up from 0 to 4 degrees and seems to solve the problem. However, it is really just a poor design issue.
I am really disappointed in the poor design of the Whirlpool product and also in the fundamentals of French doors.

5.0 out of 5 stars No problems, just a great fridge, May 7, 2011

I haven't ever had any freezing of liquids in the refrigerator compartment. I've heard people complain about it, but all my foods have been the correct temperature, and I place my milk and juices right next to the ice maker. Yes, you do have to bend down to get items from the freezer bin, but that's not a symptom of this fridge, it's ANY bottom chest freezer. However, I've found that this refrigerator style allows me to place wider items in it (like a pizza box) with relative ease. With my old side-by-side, everything felt cramped. I've noticed the humidity problem around the door seals during the summer time if my house thermostat is set high, but the humidity button fixes that and I don't really notice any increase in my electricity costs. I think people are just splitting hairs when finding problems with this fridge. I've had it for 2 years now and it runs great. The shelves are sturdy, the soda bin is really convenient, and the door shelves are great for condiments and other items you want easy access to. They can actually hold Costco size mayonnaise and other items.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor design, December 18, 2011
This review is from: Whirlpool : GI5FSAXVY Refrigerator
I really really dislike this refrigerator. We owned a Samsung french door fridge with the pull out drawer and it was awesome! This fridge is very poorly designed.

1. Everything freezes! I have to keep the temp at 42 degrees.
2. The fridge light only works if the right door is open which is very annoying and dysfunctional.
3. The can coke dispenser requires that you put the actual can box in the refrigerator for it to actually function, which is a waste of space and looks tacky.
4. The refrigerator inside is poorly designed, which does not provide enough space.
5. The freezer is tiny!
6. The ice maker does not have an option for crushed ice and the dispenser is not tall enough to fit a normal size glass so my water always spills when I get water because I have to lean it back so much.
7.The freezer drawer will not stay open by itself and the top shelf is really hard to pull out. The bottom is completely wire too which looks really bad.

I would never purchase this refrigerator.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good so far, October 5, 2011
This review is from: Whirlpool : GI5FSAXVY Refrigerator
We bought this fridge as a scratch n dent from HH Gregg 4 months ago. So far, we love it. The only issue we have had so far is that at one point the ice maker got clogged up and froze over, but I used a hairdryer and thawed it out - few hours later it was back up and running.

We really like the drawers in the doors - large enough for muliple gallons of milk, juice, etc.

With the water and ice in the door, our water consumption has greatly increased.
