2.0 out of 5 stars The beeping may drive you mad!, January 5, 2011
By
This review is from: Whirlpool : GU3100XTVB 24 Dishwasher - Black
Hello! At the risk of sounding completely neurotic, this dishwasher actually makes me come unglued with its beeping. It beeps when I open it (hello, I opened it, is it possible that I don't know that I opened it???), it beeps every two or three minutes while it's open (gone are the days of air drying the dishes and how could a person possibly not know that the dishwasher is open when it's laid out in the middle of the kitchen???) and it beeps when I close it (again, I'm the one operating the open/close of the dishwasher so I do not need a high pitched, completely annoying beep to let me know it's closed)! Because the kitchen is my haven, I have decided to simply hand wash the dishes most evenings because there are only two of us and a one year old so it's worth it to me to hand wash in peace.

Additionally, the racks seem quite flimsy, often off track and the silverware compartments do not stay in place well. The silverware compartments do separate so that you can easily remove sections to fit large items in the bottom yet still wash silverware but this is the only redeeming quality I have noticed so far with this dishwasher. Unfortunately, we have just bought the house and we are choosing to change other aspects of the house such as lighting so I'm stuck with this "beeper" until I can find one on craigslist that doesn't beep!

I am comparing this experience to the KitchenAid we have in our other home which is now a rental house. If the tennants didn't have four kids and need the peace and quiet more than I do, I would swap with dishwashers with them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good cleaning, mediocre design, right size, July 27, 2011
This review is from: Whirlpool : GU3100XTVB 24 Dishwasher - Black
This dishwasher has three positives: it fits in smaller than normal spaces, it has ample features (control options), and it cleans and dries well. It also has three negatives: relatively small capacity (understandable to accommodate the smaller exterior size), mediocre rack design, and the annoying beep when the door is open.

We've had this unit a couple months, and it's okay. I don't like the rack layout - it's not the most efficient design to stack dishes. I hate the beep. But the good thing about it is that it fits in the space we've got.

We originally bought a standard size dishwasher to replace our 15-year old one. When the guy tried to install it we were dismayed to see that it was a half inch too tall for our counter. A frustrating search for something that would fit led us to discover that the few available ADA-compliant units have a smaller height and width requirement. At that point, and even now, we're just glad to have one that didn't require us to replace our countertop.

I gave it 4 stars but that's only in the context of small dishwashers. If I rated it against standard size units it would have been probably 2 stars.

The bottom line is this: if your kitchen can handle a standard dishwasher, then don't buy this one. You'd pay more for it and have less capacity. However if you need a smaller unit then this is okay. It's not great but it's adequate, it got better reviews than the few other similar-size units we found, and it beats raising the countertop by a long shot.
