same story... not sure the same result, March 11, 2011
This review is from: Whirlpool MH1170XSB 1.7 cu. ft. 1000 watt Microhood Combination with 2-Speed Hood Fan (Kitchen)
same thing happened to me... must be a favorite of contractors for new houses. WE're going on our 3rd anniversary in this house and the microwave just stopped heating. So, after reading these reviews along with others I've found I thnk I'll just skip the service call and buy a new (not whirlpool) microwave.

Don't get this microwave!, October 2, 2010
This review is from: Whirlpool MH1170XSB 1.7 cu. ft. 1000 watt Microhood Combination with 2-Speed Hood Fan (Kitchen)
I have had this microwave for 3 years. I bought it along with the brand new house, today I wanted to warm up some food and "nothing". Everything seems to be working fine but it won't heat the food. I called Whirlpool and they where not helpful at all. What they did do was recommend a service tech's name and number and he charges $150.00 to come in plus the parts depending on what they are. So basically they want me to pay more to fix this microwave instead of less to replace it. Whatever happend to buying something and it working until you didn't like it anymore and then replacing it?

Headaches ahead?, July 16, 2010
This review is from: Whirlpool MH1170XSB 1.7 cu. ft. 1000 watt Microhood Combination with 2-Speed Hood Fan (Kitchen)
Got this appliance, along with 2 other Whirlpool appliances (stove, dishwasher) already installed in a new home that we bought August of last year. The home was built and sat vacant for 2 years as it was rediculously overpriced amidst the floundering economy. Yesterday the microwave mysteriously just stopped heating food. Nothing else seems to be wrong with it. I might add that up until this point I have been very pleased with this appliance and it is the nicest microwave I have ever had. Then I called service. After trying to speak to a computer, I finally got service scheduled for next week. Only then could I get an actual person on the phone, who enightened me to my new plight. Whirlpool doesn't care that it is new "to me", and that I have had it 11 months. Apparently folks are expected to snap their products right up on the shelves when they are manufactured. I am expected to pay for service call + repair cost. This has to be the worst customer service experience I have ever had; and I am only saying that because I have had to repair/replace items before that were defective with other major brand manufacturers, and have NEVER had one tell me that the product was made over a year ago and that I am just out of luck, get ready to break out the checkbook. When it comes to replacing these products I will most definately be changing brands and going with someone else.

Awful product, poor customer service, September 24, 2009
This review is from: Whirlpool MH1170XSB 1.7 cu. ft. 1000 watt Microhood Combination with 2-Speed Hood Fan (Kitchen)
I own the 1160 version of this oven for a little under two years. It broke three times over the last 10 months. First time it was still within the one year warranty. Apparently this piece of junk was never fixed properly because it broke afer 5 months and then AGAIN in another 5 months. Now Whirlpool washed their hands off claiming we are out of warranty. The most rediculous part is that they thought they were cooperative when they suggested that we keep paying the diagnostic fee for a technitian to come in to us every five months (the problem is obviously recurring, so that would be going on until we finally get fed up I imagine), while they in turn would keep sending us the replacement part for "free". Customer service was very poor and unaccomodating, both the representative and her supervisor had an attitude too. In addition to this in between repairs on an ongoing basis the oven door wouldn't close until you push it in with force applied at a certain angle (we got used to that, but still...) Also defrost cycle cooks parts of food, while leaving other parts frozen. Ok, things happen, I understand the unit is deffective, but they wouldn't replace it and that is what the problem is AND they refused to pay for ongoing repares. We had $1500 worth of their appliances scheduled for delivery in two weeks - needless to say I cancelled the entire order. Thanks, no Whirlpool my house anymore!
