1.0 out of 5 stars 8 inch Surface Burner Element - rated 2600 watts November 6, 2013
Verified Purchase
Our older range burnt out the 8 inch surface burner element and connector. I already had a spare connector from an earlier repair but needed a new element. I researched and picked out this 2600 watt element instead of a lower 2100 watt element. The element came in a ziplock type bag. Not exactly sealed but it was new. I washed the new element to minimize the burning of fumes from a brand new element. Turned on the vent fant, hooked it up and turned on the heat. The element smoked a little bit but that quickly stopped.

One thing I noticed was the most inner ring did not appear to sit flush/flat along with the rest of the rings. It was raised higher than the rest of the rings. I had thought about exchanging it because I was worried about our pots and pans not being flat on the element during cooking. I compared our other existing elements and they have flat surfaces on the rings. So it looks like with use, the rings flatten with heat. I decided to use it the way it is, after a day or two, the rings of the element now are all flat.

There is a stamping under that show it is 2600 watt for 240 v, but I don't see any country of origin. Our existing element are made in US. My guess is this new one is from China, but I can't confirm it.

UPDATE 01/03/2014: IMPORTANT READ! Initial rating for this element was 5 stars, now it is one star because it exploded. A section glowed bright white, started sparking and exploded. Fire alarm went off. We were very fortunate that no one sustained injuries. The parts of the element that sparked, flew a short distance causing very minor stain to the range top, a couple pots sitting on the other unused elements. The pot that was on this element was a Corning ware glass pot (I think it's no longer made).

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the $ November 10, 2011

It's been a pain for a while with the inconsistent heat from the Whirlpool stove. My landlord sent a mechanic twice and he just couldn't "fix" it. Sparks and smoke came out from the burner adapter occasionally and there was no tolerance of fire risk at all then. I then decided to purchase the burner and rewire kit out my pocket to replace it. Takes only $30 and 10 minutes, works like new. Cooking is a joyful work again. The replacing is very simple and needs no professional tools. Just make sure the stove is unplugged before working.
One thing needs to be aware of is the bad odor when you first turn the burner on. I believe it's from the coating of the burner and it's toxic. I had the windows of my kitchen open, set the burner at mid-heat for about 5 minutes until the smoke and odor was totally gone. Then I turned it to high-heat to make sure it functions as well. Now it heats up in a very short time and the heat is very consistent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Be careful all of you who bought this! January 12, 2014

5/16/2014 This is ANOTHER update, yes, it exploded AGAIN after only 2 months! Burnt the newly replaced control switch due to last explosion. And you wonder why I bought it again, I was trying not to!!! Yet this seller is all over the place on the internet, this time I got the item from eBay instead of Amazon, the seller has a different name on eBay, but when I received the item, it was shipped from Amazon using Amazon's packaging and an Amazon order number that I never placed. The lesson learned? - Go to Lowes and pay $35, if it explodes, at least you can take it back to Lowes. READ the other 1 star ratings and stay away from this item/seller!

I initially gave it a 5 star, but after using it for 2 months, the element exploded while cooking yesterday, damaged my pot, dripping pan, and the control switch. I saw the other 1 star rating here, we had the same experience! This is a fire hazard and Amazon should do something about the seller and this product before someone gets hurt!

This is the larger sized burner. I ordered 2, and it seems to be working good so far. I've been using it for couple months now.

I have tried at least two other burners, which never worked. This burner worked as if it was the original burner.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT REPLACEMENT... July 21, 2013
Verified Purchase
I currently reside in a condo where pretty much every unit was structured in uniform (the same kitchen appliances, the same blue-print layout, etc). Thinking of the hundred some condos I share in this community, pretty much everyone has the same oven/stove range, so I figured a stove-top burner would be easy to find for the replacement for my outdated Whirlpool RF310PXDQ model. Ha! Guess again. I searched everywhere with very little luck finding an exact replacement for my making at hand. Only promise I found were some universal stove top burners that may/may not fit my stove top. Doing a little bit more research here and there, I read the reviews here without even knowing if this burner element would work with my hard-to-find RF310PXDQ model with very good news to share: it fits my Whirlpool oven range perfectly! Both eight inch units heat up quicker than I've ever witnessed before. Tested them out last night while I was making fried rice and almost burnt my meal! Very happy with this purchase, the service, and the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does the job August 6, 2011

This burner is the orignal replacement for a whirlpool stove top burner. That is the problem. The support arms detach from the burner to easy, and you end up having to purchase another one..... But if you want the stove to work as it should it is necesary because an aftermarket burner will not work properly, so you just have to suck it up.. buy two at a time... and at least save on postage.
