5.0 out of 5 stars Great appliance after 6 months.... and one year update
I own a bed and breakfast and do between 3-10 loads per day. I have been working this machine like a beast for 6 months and have been satisfied with my laundry.

I will say that the cycles are a lot longer than I was used to with my top loader. Still, I think that is only to be expected given the small amount of water used. To get my sheets whitest white I use...

To get my sheets whitest white I use the special white cycle. You can also use a sanitize cycle for items like towels and bathmats. All of the cycles leave the items a bit twisted into knots, but if you shake them out before putting the items into the dryer they are fine. I also frequently use the extra rinse cycle if I am concerned about a packed load which may have some residue. Which brings me to the point of SIZE of load. I have stuffed 3 rooms' worth of laundry in one load-- sheets with 4 pillow cases each, and towel sets for two people. I can't believe how much laundry I can do in one load and and how white and clean they get.

It is important to use only the recommended amount of soap. I became heavy-handed with the soap and the experienced a system shut-down due to too much soap.

I think the washer looks great-- very space-aged and clean looking. I have the units stacked, which I didn't think was possible with such large appliances.

I also think the washer runs fairly quietly. The only time I ever hear it is when the spin cycle kicks in.

Both the washer and the dryer were expensive units but seem to be worth the money when it comes to heavy use and clean laundry.

I've now been using the units for over a year. They still clean and dry great. I only have one complaint, and it is kind of a big one. I started to notice that some of my sheets were torn-- some after only one wash. This kept happening, and happening. I finally discovered the culprit. The "peg" which starts the machine when the door closes is a metal fin which sits right in the middle of the area where your clothes inevitably get dragged over. The peg is just raw metal, no plastic coating, no soft, rounded corners. I actually had to take a (freshly torn) sheet off the peg. I am just stumped as to why this peg couldn't be coated with something protective. Now that I know the issue exists, I can be more careful removing clothes from the dryer.

First off, I have rental properties where I have installed less expensive washers and dryers where I did not experience the washing guide letters rubbing off. I have owned the washer and dryer for two years and followed cleaning instructions to the tee. So the response I received (below) from my concern about the washer letters rubbing off told me plenty about how whirlpool wants you to buy their products but could care less after the purchase is made - pathetic:

Dear Mr. Hunt:

Thank you for visiting the Whirlpool web site. We appreciate hearing from you concerning your Whirlpool washer. We apologize for the letters rubbing off; however, we recommend using only mild soap and warm water in cleaning the appliances. Unfortunately, we do not have a stencil to provide to you; therefore, we recommend obtaining a use and care manual for assistance.

To locate literature on the Whirlpool website, go to [...]. Under Owner Center, click manuals, enter model number and click go. Omit the ending letter(s) of the Model Number if the full model number does not yield any results.

I was fairly satisified with my Duet washer and dryer. It was okay, not fabulous. One day I went to start the washer and noticed the lettering that marks the cycles was missing. It rubbed off. When I contacted Whirlpool I was told it was my fault because we may have gotten some Spray and Wash overspray on it or touched a treated piece of clothing on it while putting it in the washer. EXCUSE ME for using laundry products around a washing machine! Then we were told they would sell us the replacement part ($400.00) for half price, $200.00 out of the goodness of their hearts as a 30 day offer and one time only offer. We would have to locate the part, that was not their job. When we searched the WEB for the part we were told it has been discontinued. We could buy a different color part that would not match the green washer and dryer. Also if we wanted the washer and dryer to still match, we would have to purchase the wrong color part for the dryer. I do not want to ghetto out my washer and dryer. As it is now we are basically screwed. We can't see where to put the selector knob for a wash cycle so we can't use the washer as it was intended to be used. I guess I could write it on it with a sharpie! I am so glad I spent close to $3000.00 for the washer, dryer, special color, and matching platform storage drawers so I could write on it with a sharpie.
Needless to say at this point I wish I had never purchased the washer and dryer. I am totally unhappy with the product and the "your screwed" attitude I have gotten from Whirlpool. Obama, don't bail out the appliance manufacturers like you have everyone else. If they make an inferior product, let them fail. Have you ever heard in, "Survival of the fittest"?
